To walk leisurely and freely without fear on the edge of a great cliff is something that has never been heard of in this Dharma tradition before. Zilong Shakya believes that the wisdom of non-duality is "I," and that the supreme wisdom in the presence of the Buddha (304a) is "I." This seems to be said because the Mind-Only school believes that other-dependence is "I" and agrees with that view. However, even though the Mind-Only school sets the basis of imputation for a person as other-dependence, it does not say that the person so imputed is other-dependence. This is merely a mistaken statement due to a lack of understanding. Some biased adherents of this system again say without fear: Looking at what is "I" as "I" does not confuse the way of knowing the meaning, so it will not become something to be abandoned, such as obscurations. Looking at what is not "I" as "I" is inconsistent with the meaning and the way of knowing, so it will become something to be abandoned, such as obscurations. Therefore, the five aggregates of the imputed grasping of conventional grasping are not "I," and grasping onto them as "I" is the root of samsara. However, the wisdom of ultimate non-duality is "I," so looking at it as "I" is the supreme cause for attaining enlightenment and liberation. Even when liberation is attained, it is accomplished in the state of that very "I." As it is said: When emptiness is pure, having attained the supreme self of no-self, because of attaining the pure self of the Buddha, one becomes the self of the great self. And: The elaborations of self and no-self, pacified is the supreme self. Therefore, they say this. To say so is to speak contrary to the words of the Sugata. Because the meaning of those scriptures is that the Buddha manifested the way of no-self and emptiness, but they establish "I" as enlightenment (304b) and attach sounds to it. When the noble ones comprehend the freedom from elaboration, they establish the name of "I" on the freedom from elaboration and proclaim it as such, which seems to be without any understanding. If there is an ultimate "I," then one will either never be liberated from samsara or will be liberated effortlessly. Because the "I" that exists in the ultimate will bind some beings to samsara and will freely bestow various acts of bondage and liberation, such as nirvana, on others. Because the "I" established in the ultimate is not like the conventional "I," it is a consistent and powerful lord of meaning.

And also because you wish to have what. If there is a self in the ultimate sense, then it contradicts the seal of the Blessed One's teachings that all phenomena included in the two truths are without self. If the non-dual wisdom in the ultimate sense is the self, then even if someone again views it as the self, it will not become a cause of liberation. Because a person with a conventional view of self does not look at it that way, and a person with an ultimate view of self, even if he does not look at it that way, is the ultimate self that has already been established as liberation. Because a person with a conventional view of self does not even exist in your terminology, so even if he looks at it that way, he will not attain liberation even in terminology. Moreover, you also consider this non-dual wisdom to be the ground and path of learning and non-learning, so it must also be said that the path and the person are the same entity. If so, it must be admitted that the one to be traveled is the traveler himself. Moreover, if the non-dual (305a) wisdom itself is established as the self of the Buddha from the beginning, then to say again that it is newly obtained by the Buddha as the self of the Buddha, then in the world there is no one more foolish than oneself to say such a thing, this is like the sun and the moon leaving the mark of casting a huge curse. In short, when explaining this tenet, in the face of unexamined error, just as there are persons, sentient beings, etc., so also is there a self. If examined, just as there is no self, so also there are no persons, etc. Moreover, just as there are pots, cloths, forests, etc. in name only, so also is there a self. If examined, just as there is no self, know that all phenomena are free from all elaborations such as existence and non-existence. The second is: Because it is not real, therefore this is not dependent; because it is not non-dependent, therefore this is not arising and ceasing; for this, permanence, etc. also do not exist; it is not that, nor is it other. Because it is imputed in dependence, therefore for the dependent dharma, the basis of imputation of dependence and non-dependence, etc. is not the imputation of permanence and impermanence, etc., and it is easy to eliminate. Therefore, the so-called self is imputed in dependence, because it is not self-existent, therefore it is not really existent. Moreover, it is not a dependent that arose in a previous past life, as it says in the scriptures: To say that it arose in the past time is not reasonable. Previously
