If it arises from conceptualization about things, then even if both truths are analyzed with reason, what is found is not even like dividing a dust particle into a hundred thousand parts. Since noble equanimity does not possess any conceptualization, the Madhyamikas do not accept any position. If one accepts any position and has attachment, then one will not become a Madhyamika, but will fall into partiality and extremes. If someone says, 'Although it does not exist in ultimate truth, it exists merely conventionally,' then this has already been explained above in the section on analyzing the arising of conventionality. In conventional truth, Madhyamikas consider all phenomena to be merely interdependent origination, and emptiness, even in conventional truth, causes all elaboration and clinging to positions to cease, and does not increase certain clingings. If one does not abandon certain clingings and causes them to increase, then it is not suitable for the Middle Way, and if it is not the Middle Way, then it is not appropriate to pacify all elaboration. If someone asks, 'Then, isn't the very statement that all phenomena are interdependent origination and emptiness a commitment in conventional truth? Furthermore, aren't the many commitments in the scriptures to negate the arising from the four extremes (73b), etc., commitments?' The answer is no. These are merely following with sound, like an echo in the mountains, in the face of the delusions of those who cling to things, such as those who say that things arise from the four extremes, in order to reverse their wrong conceptions, but there is no clinging to oneself and establishing it as one's own system. If merely speaking to others would cause the Tathāgata and the Madhyamikas to have commitments, then all of their commitments would become self-contradictory and would be subject to logical harm. Because in order to reverse the attachment of limitless beings, they have spoken of limitless things such as existence, non-existence, both, and neither, and have established limitless reasons. In that case, the Tathāgata and the Madhyamikas would not be able to refute others' delusions, because their own commitments would have limitless self-contradictions and logical harms. Some say that the Tathāgata has the self-established commitment of the four fearlessnesses, but this is a mistake. The Tathāgata taught the path of eliminating the deception of others' erroneous speech and thought, and said that he would not be deceived by it.

Earth, etc. (Saying) "Vowing without fear." Thus, fabricating for the sake of others, it is only widely known due to the power of the merit of the beings to be tamed. The Tathagata is because all vows of fear and fearlessness are pacified. If it were not so, if the Tathagata made a true and unfailing vow, then I would be fearless, and there would also be the idea that self-grasping truly exists. In this way, whatever has internal contradictions and is harmed by reason with regard to self-grasping and vows cannot be omniscient, like the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools, etc. Therefore, although the Madhyamaka school has no vows, in the eyes of others, there is, is not, both, neither, etc., and dependent origination and emptiness, etc., are merely names, terms, and designations, and there is no contradiction in saying this. Because saying this is precisely the method for others to understand the profound meaning of having no partiality and vows. The teacher said: "One should not say empty, nor should one say not empty, one should not do both or neither, but should speak for the sake of designation." It is like a person with cataracts seeing various things such as hair streaks, and in order to dispel the attachment to their reality, a person without cataracts also sees various things such as hair streaks, but says that what is seen is not as it exists, just as a person without cataracts does not need to see hair streaks in name. If it is said, are these reasonings such as preventing the four extremes of birth one's own or another's reasoning? If it is the former, how can the unborn, etc., established by it not become one's own tenet? If it is the latter, how can another's reasoning prevent another? Because it is not one's own, if one does not admit even a little of the tenet to be established, then there is no need for the reasoning to be established; if there is not even a little of the other's tenet to be refuted, then there is no need for the reasoning to be refuted. In the Debate Refutation it says: "If direct perception, etc., sees a little meaning, if it is to be established or refuted, because there is none, I have no fault." And "Because there is nothing to be refuted, I also do not refute anything, therefore saying to be a refuter, this is your slander."
