If you think that non-existent emptiness is dependent on existence, then the sky and the son of a barren woman, etc., should also depend on form. If so, the support of form, such as a vase, should now establish past and future ears of grain and flowers in the sky as dependent. Furthermore, according to your view, the Mind-Only school's assertion that emptiness, which is not established on the other-powered, is different from the other-powered, would not be mistaken, because the (338b) five aggregates, which are compounded by the other-powered of causes and conditions, are not empty of their own nature. However, apart from that, by the negation of a different entity, on top of the five aggregates, the meaning of emptiness is supremely determined by the emptiness of emptiness. You Mind-Only people greatly ridicule the way of emptiness, but the emptiness of your own system is established as they establish it, so do to yourself as much as you ridicule others. Therefore, they do not want the nature of conventional things like vases and persons like Devadatta to be empty, and they newly create the emptiness of emptiness with their own conceptions, with a dharma other than this, and the objects of emptiness, which are empty of truth, are different for vases and Devadatta, etc. Also, some say that conventional vases, etc., and Devadatta, etc., do not exist at all, and apart from this, the ultimate truth is eternally established, and although conventional and ultimate are one in essence, they are different in aspect, so the two truths exist separately in the realm of the two wisdoms of the Buddha, and in the path of learning, the objects of valid conventional cognition and valid rational cognition also exist separately. All the views, meditations, and practices of those who say this cannot serve as the basis for liberation and the antidote to obscurations, because by meditating on and cultivating the nature of reality, which is unrelated to any phenomenon, such as non-existent negation or eternal reality, etc., one cannot abandon the two obscurations of clinging to reality in conventional phenomena, because the abandonment and realization of conventional wisdom must have one object and contradictory aspects. If the self-nature of conventional things is not empty, and one grasps the emptiness of emptiness, which is the negation of a different entity from that, as the ultimate truth, and views the tathāgatagarbha, which is the ultimate truth other than the aggregates, etc., as permanent, uncompounded, and real, and the aggregates, etc., are originally not

Therefore, for phenomena such as the aggregates that are established by valid cognition of terms, the afflictions and conceptual thoughts of grasping at truth are not the same object, because they are based on the two truths respectively; nor are they contradictory, because both are similar in having the aspect of clinging to truth. Therefore, grasping at the essence or difference of the two truths as distinct, and in terms of aspect, clinging to what is truly established as real, or clinging to what is not truly existent as real, these not only do not become the antidote to the two self-graspings and the two obscurations, but instead become the cause of increasing the two self-graspings and the two obscurations, because clinging to the conventional, nominally established, valid cognition as not being empty of their own essence, and clinging to a different emptiness from that as real or not truly existent as real, thus nourishing and increasing the seeds of manifest clinging to reality and the attachment that depends on it. This is just like the Samkhyas and Vaisheshikas exerting effort for the sake of liberation in vain. Therefore, such emptiness is like the emptiness of the outsiders, temporary or nominal emptiness, which the Bhagavan criticized with many names. As the Lankavatara Sutra says, "Great wisdom, the emptiness of one without one is the lowest emptiness, which you should abandon." And as the Lamp of Definitive Meaning (339b) says, "Son of the Victorious One, things are completely destroyed, all existence is completely empty, temporary emptiness is for the non-Buddhists, the wise do not argue with foolish children." And as the Nirvana Sutra says, "Good son, all dharmas are empty by nature. Why is that? Because all dharmas have no self-nature to grasp." It also says, "Bodhisattva Mahasattva, because he possesses five things, sees that the nature of all dharmas is originally empty and peaceful. Good son, if there is a renunciate or Brahmin who sees that the nature of all dharmas is not empty, then he is not a renunciate, not a Brahmin, does not attain Prajnaparamita, does not attain complete exhaustion, does not see the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, and should be known as a member of the retinue of Mara. Good son, all dharmas are empty by nature, and the Bodhisattva, meditating on emptiness, sees all dharmas as empty.
