Therefore, in order to establish the four valid cognitions1 as the basis for refutation and establishment, and to extensively explain them in treatises such as the Root Wisdom, the Entering the Middle Way, and the Four-Three, thereby subduing all internal and external heretics, especially, although it is not accepted that things in the two truths are established by the power of things themselves, when engaging in refutation and establishment, just as all things in the world and in treatises are said to engage in the function of things by their own power, following the views accepted by others, extensive refutations are made to others through the means of the power of things themselves. For example, for the Samkhya school, if there is (primordial matter), then production from the self (Atman) would also become meaningless, because the innate wisdom of worldly people considers things to function by their own power, and in order to show this, it is stated so clearly in the Commentary and refuted production from the self. Like this, in order to harm others, the reasonings of the power of things themselves, which are spoken by others, are expressed through endless consequentialist arguments. (78b) Furthermore, although consequentialists never accept that the probandum and the probans, which are established for the sake of their own desired tenets, exist in reality, in order to tame other disciples, in accordance with the common parlance of others, in their own verbal expressions, the three aspects of the subject, property, and meaning of the autonomous probandum and probans are extensively explained by Master Sangye Gyang and Chandrakirti. For example, in the Clear Words of the thirteenth chapter, it says: "Because its nature is not so, all conditioned things are false, because they are deceptive, like water in a mirage. Whatever is true is not deceptive, for example, Nirvana." Therefore, this is to explain the autonomous syllogism. So, how is the autonomous syllogism explained? It is to take all conditioned things as the subject, to take falsity as the property to be proven, and to take deceptiveness as the property of the homogenous class, and the phrase "because its nature is not so" means that the reason for the probandum is not unestablished, the part of the mirage is an example of the established concomitance of the subsequent, and the phrase "whatever is true is not deceptive" shows the counter-concomitance, and the phrase "for example, Nirvana" shows the basis of the counter-concomitance.

The Prasangikas also need to establish the three aspects of Svatantrika before others, because if these are not established, the Prasangikas cannot generate inference known to others before others. How are they established? In the Clear Words, it says: "The knowledge that arises from not being mistaken about what is to be proven with respect to the object that is hidden is inference." Here, the word "mark" indicates the property of the subject, and "not being mistaken about what is to be proven" indicates the pervasion of concomitance and counter-concomitance, thus acknowledging that inference is a valid means of knowledge. If one thinks that these are not the three aspects of Svatantrika, but the three aspects known to others, and therefore they are acknowledged and stated here, thereby causing disciples to generate inference as a valid means of knowledge, then it does not matter whether others acknowledge such three aspects or not. If the opponent himself states such three aspects there and causes other opponents to generate inference as a valid means of knowledge, then these three aspects are stated by the opponent's own continuum, because other continua have not stated them there. Who in this world is more foolish than to think that that speech is not the three aspects that abide in the speech of one's own continuum? Therefore, even if there are no three aspects established by one's own system in reality, but in order to refute others, one states what is known as a valid means of knowledge possessing the three aspects known to others, it only appears to establish before others the three aspects of Svatantrika's establishment. If it is established in this way, what will change? Whether other opponents already know it or have not yet known it, or can know it, as long as the words of the property of the subject, etc., of the reasoning that harms others, which appear in the mind of the Madhyamika himself, are taken and stated verbatim by the Madhyamika opponent himself, and the meaning of what is expressed by the property of the subject, etc., stated in this way, in the Madhyamika's own system (79b) as a valid means of knowledge, it is not established in either of the two truths, therefore the Madhyamika does not establish his own system. In these two cases, the former case, which is called the stated own system, is merely mentioned as a name called own system, but it is not an own system with real meaning, because if it were, there would be the fault that the Madhyamika has his own system. The three aspects, etc., are merely names called systems spoken by the Madhyamika opponent himself, and are not truly stated.
