Why is that? If one is a Madhyamika, it is not necessary to be a Madhyamika who asserts tenets; even if one is, since the vehicle and the tenets are not the same, how can it be established thereby? Furthermore, regarding the statement that the empowered Buddhas and those great Bodhisattvas have the arising and entering from the cessation samadhi for each moment of consciousness, if the cessation samadhi is the moment of consciousness of samadhi, then for those two, arising and entering, if there are not two moments of consciousness, arising and entering cannot be established. If arising and entering have two moments, then it cannot be established that arising and entering are done for each moment of consciousness; (53a) At the time when arising and entering are done for cessation for each moment of consciousness, it will become that there is no opportunity to enter cessation for the duration of a moment, because each moment is done with entering and arising, so that part of one moment must enter for half a moment and arise for half a moment. At that time, if there is no opportunity to remain in cessation for the duration of a moment, what is the point? If the smallest unit of time is a moment, and there is no opportunity to remain for that long, then entering cessation samadhi is just talk. If it is not so, and it is thought that entering half a moment is enough, then in that way, that moment will lose the part of the moment, so the statement that arising and entering are done for each moment cannot be established. If it is said that this principle is the nature of things that cannot be conceived by our own reasoning, so it is not to be understood, then, for the Mind-Only school's acceptance that consciousness is an indivisible moment, the Madhyamika analyzes whether there is a part that relates to before and after, and thereby establishes by reason that it is divisible. If the Mind-Only school examines the indivisible moment of consciousness, such a thought may arise, but that principle is the nature of things that cannot be conceived by us short-sighted people, how can it not be in accordance with reality? Because it is the same as your statement. Moreover, even ordinary beings, when analyzing all phenomena, say that there is no phenomenon that cannot be analyzed, then, whatever has not obtained the ability to analyze with wisdom, all of that is said to be an inconceivable nature, how can it be established in that way? Even so, the establishment of inconceivable phenomena and nature is not denied for what has not become understandable due to weak intelligence. (53b) Second, on that ground, the perfection of giving is particularly taught.
