When offering food, clothing, and other enjoyments, and thereby expounding instructions such as dedication that reverse the cycle of existence, the giver quickly receives the instructions, and thereafter views the cycle of existence as flawed. Having realized the noble path, they completely sever the continuum of existence and attain the peace of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Therefore, the cause for attaining conditioned nirvana also arises from the giving of Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Alternatively, it can also be understood as: having completely severed the continuum of existence, thereby proceeding to the conditioned peace of the path that severs the continuum of existence, which is the nirvana of Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Third, those sentient beings who have vowed to benefit beings will, through giving, not take long to attain joy. The giving of those who are not bodhisattvas is not enjoying the result of giving at the same time as giving, but rather hoping for the ripening of giving. Therefore, they may not engage in giving, because the result of giving has not manifested, so they are not interested in giving. Bodhisattvas who have vowed to benefit beings (55a) will, through giving, not take long, but will enjoy its result at the same time, thereby attaining joy, because they do not hope for ripening, but give for the sake of others' happiness. For that reason, they will also be happy to give. Fourth, because of those who are loving and those who are not loving, therefore the words of giving are the most important. The words of praise for giving are the most desirable, that is, the first, because, as mentioned before, the bodhisattvas who possess loving-kindness and the ordinary beings who do not possess loving-kindness, and all the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, the cause for attaining higher realms and definite goodness is giving. Fifth, even if wealth and suffering arise, they can become the cause for increasing the benefit of others. First, just as hearing the sound of "How to give," after thinking about it, the bodhisattva generates joy, similarly, for the Buddhas, does entering into peace bring joy? Since everything has already been abandoned, what need is there to say more? The bodhisattva merely gives to beggars, and when they are satisfied, what kind of joy will the bodhisattva himself generate? When some beggars come to the bodhisattva's door and the bodhisattva hears the sound of them begging to give them the enjoyments they desire

The Bodhisattva thought, "Is this beggar begging from me or from someone else?" When he realized that he was begging from the prince himself, the joy that arose in the prince's mind was such that even the joy obtained by the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas from entering the complete cessation of all suffering could not compare with it. What need is there to mention the immense joy that arises when a Bodhisattva gives away all inner and outer things, and is satisfied with altruism? Or, the joy of hearing the sound of begging from the noble ones is greater than the peace of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, then the joy that arises when a Bodhisattva gives away all things for the benefit of others is even more superior to the joy of attaining an inferior Nirvana, what need is there to say, it should be declared in this way. Secondly, if the Bodhisattva gives away the body etc., will the body feel pain? Bodhisattvas are divided into two types: those without attachment and those with attachment. The first case is that cutting the body will not cause pain, because he has realized that all dharmas are without self-nature. It is like cutting an inanimate object. As it is said in the scriptures: For example, there is a large Sala tree forest, and someone comes there and cuts down one Sala tree, the remaining Sala trees will not think: This tree has been cut down, we have not been cut down. They will not develop attachment and anger because of this, there is no discrimination and delusion. Such patience of the Bodhisattva is pure and complete patience, like space. Therefore, cutting the body of the noble one will not cause physical pain, because this body is not the result of maturation caused by afflictions, and because the cause of suffering, sin, has been abandoned. Cutting the body will not cause mental pain, because suffering etc. are completely unattainable. As it is said in the scriptures: He has no physical pain, where will there be mental pain? He has compassion for the world, therefore he can live long. Also, as it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": For the sake of abandoning sins, suffering is not suffering, the wise do not feel displeasure. Like this, inverted thinking, sins harm body and mind, merit makes the body happy, the wise make the mind happy, for the benefit of others, abide in the world.

Also, why do the compassionate ones grieve? So it is said. The second is, giving away the body in generosity, with my suffering, seeing the suffering of hells and so forth of other beings as if experiencing it myself, swiftly striving to cut off those sufferings. The Bodhisattva cuts off and gives away the body, and following the torment of suffering arising from that, he estimates that the suffering of other sentient beings in the three lower realms, such as hells, is a thousand times greater than the suffering of cutting off this flesh, and that unbearable suffering is seen as if experiencing it oneself. That Bodhisattva does not regard the suffering of cutting off his own body merely as suffering, but swiftly strives for the sake of great Bodhi in order to cut off the suffering of hells and so forth. Thirdly, there are two kinds of generosity: transcendent and non-transcendent. The first is: generosity, the object of generosity, the receiver, and the giver are all empty, which is called transcendent pāramitā. By what generosity does one go to the other shore? The other shore refers to the Buddha who is beyond this shore of samsara and possesses the abandonment of the two obscurations. Reaching there is reaching the other shore. That is also about protecting prī (梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思). Ghañ is a particle. Accomplishment, nya and ṇa are connected, like ica, nos removes nya, and increases on the stem. Srīpāra. Ca and tsha etc. are connected with dhūṭa and gha, ka and kha etc. are replaced by gha. Keep the root's a. When pronouncing, read pāra. What needs to be done is karma, the am particle of the second genitive case. The a letter should remove the final rā's a. When pronouncing, read pāraṃ. (56b) Therefore, it becomes the word of the other shore. If there is the word "reaching" after that, then the gender of the words before and after the word pāraṃ should not be omitted, because words like prīṣodara will appear. What truly establishes "reaching the other shore" is prajñāpāramitā, because by dedicating the generosity etc. held by it to Bodhi, one can reach the other shore, because generosity etc. can obtain the name "reaching the other shore." Like such generosity etc., which is both prajñāpāramitā and reaching the other shore, it is also established as reaching the other shore. Therefore, generosity, the object of generosity, the receiver, and the giver are all empty, which is transcendent.
