The cause that is separate from (the cause) will become a non-cause to which the term 'cause' does not apply. The application of the term 'cause' is because it depends on the effect. Establishing the cause as a cause is also not existing without a cause, therefore cause and effect are not inherently existent. The third is: Because both of these are like illusions, I have no fault, and worldly things also exist. If you ask: According to your view, how does the cause produce the effect? This analysis applies to the view that says cause and effect are inherently established. Because according to our (Madhyamaka) view, all things are produced by distorted imputation, therefore both of these cause and effect are like illusions, although they do not arise, but like the hair seen by someone with blurred vision, there is no need to analyze the objects of conceptualization. Therefore, for me, a Madhyamaka, analyzing whether cause and effect meet or do not meet, etc., will not become a fault. For worldly things, not analyzing the appearing phenomena, saying that they exist in front of others, there is no harm. Secondly, there are the opponent's view and two answers. First, there are three: presenting similarities, therefore it will not become a refutation, and pointing out other faults. The first is: Does this refutation refute from meeting the one to be refuted, or from not meeting? Saying 'yes', then this fault will also befall you, won't it? Saying that cause and effect arise from meeting or not meeting, this is the same for you, that is, this refutation that prevents the inherent existence of cause and effect, refutes from meeting the one to be refuted, or from not meeting? If it refutes from meeting, then their abilities are the same, and it will become without difference. If it refutes from not meeting, then it cannot refute, or it will become refuting everything, just as said before, this fault will also befall you, won't it? After abandoning the two conceptualizations (309a), the third conceptualization also does not exist. The second is: When you say such words and only destroy your own school, then you cannot refute. When you say such words as 'cause and effect arise from meeting or not meeting', and for that argument, this analysis is the same, therefore when you only destroy your own school to be refuted, then you, the Madhyamaka, cannot refute.

Because an establisher that is established by its own nature cannot refute a refutable that is established by its own nature, because your own refutation is caused by the power of being refuted, (leading to) cause and effect being established by their own nature. Third, because there is also the same equal fault consequence for your own words, because you groundlessly slander all things, you will not be recognized by noble beings, and because you do not have your own tenet, you can only refute whatever is refuted. There is also this fault, because you, as a Madhyamika, your own words of refutation also have the same consequence of equal fault of contact and non-contact, with the appearance of refutation, groundlessly slandering the cause and effect of the existence of things, by examining contact and non-contact, slandering all things. Because if non-contact is the same, then all non-contact things will produce (results), this statement is not reasonable. Although non-contact is the same, the non-contact magnet can attract iron that is within its range of action, and the non-contact eye can see things that are within its range of action, so it is not that all non-contact things will not produce results. Similarly, although the cause has already produced the effect without contact, it is not that all non-contact things will not produce, but only produce the effect that can be produced. Therefore, you will not be recognized by noble beings, this is what you admit. Moreover, you are also a pursuer of refutation, because you do not have any definite tenet, and only to refute others, (309b) therefore, a pursuer of refutation is only for the sake of making people laugh, it is a futile debate. The second part, revealing the reason for equal fault, using examples to illustrate that even without self-nature, refutation can refute. It is unreasonable to refute without understanding the views of others, it is unreasonable to abandon the good path and harm the world of evil paths, and other methods of refutation should also be widely understood, there are five points in total. The first point is, the refuter refutes the refutable with non-contact, then is the refutation able to refute? Or is it only able to refute after contact? If you say so, then where is the fault? There must be a tenet, for the subject of change, this tenet does not exist, therefore this equal fault is impossible to establish. The refuter refutes
