That which is called "that" is just Ladakh (བླ་དྭགས་), and is not considered to be a different substance. Root text: The contradiction of one basis being different substances is also not present, like turning to sleep and knowing the time of sleep. Because the essence is primordially pure, it has not wandered in samsara. The spontaneous power plays in various ways. This means that the contradiction of mistaking one basis for two substances is also not present, just as the mind itself has the essence of awareness that is primordially pure, like turning to sleep, that is, the state of being neither asleep nor awake, and the awareness at the time of falling asleep. Therefore, although it has never wandered in samsara, it arises as a play from the power of spontaneous, clear depth, and through conceptual thought, it appears as various kinds of happiness and suffering. Root text: Just as the self-light of lapis lazuli is not visible because it is not produced by clear conditions. Likewise, the resonance of primordial purity, free from objects and signs, is a spontaneously perfect vase, the outer shell unbroken. The essence is emptiness, and the resonance is unceasing, so it abides as the basis of all appearances. However, that Bodhicitta, which has not moved from the basis, is not clear because it has characteristics and is divided into categories. This means that, just as a small grain of lapis lazuli cannot be seen in the belly of Mount Sumeru (ལྷུན་པོ), but when it encounters the conditions of appearance, it can emit light that illuminates the sky, so too is the Sugata-garbha (བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ), the source of both samsara and nirvana. Primordial purity, unborn, free from objects and signs, the unceasing resonance, spontaneous perfection, that is, when the inner light is absorbed and not obscured, like an unbroken outer shell, when abiding in the body of a youthful vase, the essence is emptiness, and the resonance, that is, anything of samsara and nirvana can appear, and the aspect of appearance is unceasing, therefore, it abides there as the basis of the appearance of samsara and nirvana, but there is not even a little separation or movement from the state of the fundamental primordial purity, such a Bodhicitta, because it has characteristics and is divided into categories, is not clear. Root text: That is not Buddha, nor sentient being, not one, not different, without edge or center. It is not a nihilistic emptiness, nor a substantial thing. It is one in method with the three appearances of the unborn. This means that the essence of primordial purity is not limited upwards as Buddha, nor is it limited downwards as sentient beings, nor is it single or multiple, etc., nor is there any grasping of edge or center, etc., nor is it a nihilistic emptiness, that is, nothing can appear, like a fainting, nor is it composed of substance and characteristics.

Being absorbed into the state of no-birth, without being obscured, the appearance of the two Kayas outwardly, the method is the same. Thus it is said. Root text: From that very state, the nature of awareness. The essence of the five winds, radiates outward with sound. Inner clarity, from the boundary of the youthful vase, as if unmoved from the base, the base appearance arises. When the light of compassion's awareness, becomes various objects. Appearing as discriminating consciousness, in awareness. Because of holding onto the part of ignorance that relies on it, like a cloudless sky, from the pure original purity. Spontaneously, eight ways of arising manifest. This is the gateway connecting Samsara and Nirvana, the supreme vehicle, the extremely secret tantras, and the key of oral instructions, the land of snowy mountains, opened by one with a thousandfold immaculate light. This is said in conjunction with the way the base appearance moves, from the very nature of the pure, free from elaboration, the nature of awareness, earth, water, fire, wind, space, the essence of the five winds radiates outward with sound, from the inner clear youthful vase's boundary, as if unmoved from the base, the unborn speech, the base appearance arises. When the light of compassion's awareness, that is, appearing as the six objects, etc., to that, appearing as discriminating consciousness, because of holding onto the part of ignorance that relies on awareness, in the pure original purity like a cloudless sky, spontaneously, eight ways of arising manifest. The so-called great accomplishment of non-accomplishment abides, appearing as spontaneously accomplished, and in order, appearing as compassion, accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings. Appearing as wisdom, appearing as the self-light of the five wisdoms. Appearing as the body, awareness ripens into the body. Appearing as non-duality, liberated from one and many. Appearing as the exhaustion of extremes, confused appearances do not abide in their own continuum. Because the door of pure wisdom reaches the end, the Tathagatagarbha appears as original purity. Appearing as impurity, compassion without focus arises for sentient beings of the six realms, etc., these are the eight ways of spontaneous manifestation. Root text: At that moment, in the instant of seeing the base appearance, the primordial Buddha Samantabhadra, does not allow the appearance to spread into confusion, in its own appearance, with awareness surpassing the unpredicted base. The wisdom of the base itself ripening into the fruit, in a single instant, greatly distinguishes differences. At the moment of distinguishing, wisdom itself also ripens into the body.
