Perfected in three kinds of compassion. The phrase "Perfected in three kinds of compassion" means that, for this, this very text is confused, and since both the dharmas of samsara and liberation, i.e., nirvana, are not established, it is said that it does not move from the sphere and does not become other. Like that, the basis on which both samsara and nirvana are not established is like the sky, and its nature is also emptiness in essence, beyond expression, and the basis from which both samsara and nirvana appear and spread. The activity of compassion, confusion, and liberation arises and is perfected in various ways. Root: In that very state, pure Buddha, impure sentient beings, the division of samsara and nirvana, like dreams that do not move in sleep, do not come from anywhere, nor do they move elsewhere. This means that, as just explained, in that very state, the pure Buddha and the impure sentient beings, i.e., all the dharmas belonging to the division of samsara and nirvana, are like dreams in sleep, whether one dreams of walking, standing, lying down, sitting, etc., they do not move elsewhere, nor do they come from anywhere, nor do they move elsewhere. Root: Briefly, the established view of the abiding of the ground, primordial purity, spontaneous accomplishment, uncertainty, the meaning of definitive meaning, can be transformed into anything, can be promised to anything, all the seven rainbows of various desires, the essence of primordial purity, one taste, each side, others who hold their own tenets separately, like seven blind men speaking of the birthplace of an elephant, just as they speak of the color of a goose differently. This means that, for the time being, just in words, if we establish the established view of the abiding of the ground, the state of mind, the ground is considered to be primordially pure, as well as spontaneously accomplished, as well as uncertain, as well as the actual entity of definitive meaning, can be transformed into anything, can be promised to anything, as well as wanting to become various things, there are seven in total. These seven are also the awareness of the essence of primordial purity, but due to the fault of establishing each person's wishes and views differently, they have not found certainty. If the ground is primordially pure, then the confusion that arises in samsara cannot arise, because the nature of the Sugata-garbha is stainless. It is also not spontaneously accomplished, just as the color of coal cannot be changed, it cannot be the cause of splitting into samsara and nirvana, and samsara and nirvana are each spontaneously accomplished. It does not depend on the conditions of the two accumulations, and the path practiced by samsarins also becomes meaningless.

Alas! It is not indefinite either, because purity can become impurity, and impurity can become purity. Since there is no fixed boundary, even Buddhas would fall into samsara, and sentient beings would effortlessly be liberated. Therefore, that is not the case either. Fixity is also unreasonable. If you say that before realization, there is a basis of realization, nirvana, it is the same as the eternalist views of the tirthikas, and it contradicts the desire to be liberated from causes and conditions. Even if it is not realized, if it is the basis, who would know it? If you say it is because its essence is nirvana, then there is no need for primordial liberation. It is also not something that can be transformed into anything. If it is transformed into permanence, it is like being unable to cut the sky. Even if it is not transformed into impermanence, it will change. If the basis can be transformed, then the result will revert to the cause, and matter and consciousness will transform into each other, etc., which would have many faults. It is also not something that can be affirmed in any way, because it would entail the fault of rabbit horns and barren women's sons creating samsara and nirvana, etc., which is endless. It is also unreasonable to think of the basis as diverse. If the diversity is an external appearance, then there is the fault of multiple bases appearing. If it is internal consciousness, then there is the fault of the basis becoming a thinker. If you think that the two gather, then because they are mutually dependent, they cannot be one. Thus, these seven bases are the side of knowledge and awareness that clings to extremes, like many blind people touching an elephant. Although they touch it with their hands and each speaks according to their understanding, none of them truly hit the mark. Root text: Here, the essence is pure from the beginning. Qualities are spontaneously perfect, neither one nor different. Because it is free from the elaboration of things and characteristics, it is pure from the beginning. Because it is deeply clear and unobstructed, it is spontaneously perfect. That is to say, this treatise shows that the seven bases are flawed, while primordial purity and spontaneous perfection are without flaws. Because the essence is empty from the beginning, it is not established as things and characteristics. Because the nature is spontaneously perfect, it can appear as anything. Because it is deeply clear and unobstructed, it is free from permanence and annihilation. That is, qualities are spontaneously accomplished, and there is no distinction between one and different. Because it is free from all the elaborations of thought, such as the qualities of things and matter, and characteristics such as color, in primordial purity, it is deeply clear, that is, the basis for the appearance of both samsara and nirvana, without obstruction, so it is said to be spontaneously perfect. This is also primordial purity from the point of view of emptiness, the ultimate truth, and spontaneous perfection from the point of view of appearance, the conventional truth.
