Commentary: The term "examination" refers to not knowing the boundaries of what to accept and reject regarding the samaya, which is the first gateway to falling. Moreover, on top of that, disrespecting the guru, being careless, i.e., being accustomed to acting without caution regarding the deterioration of the samaya, and having strong afflictions, these four are the four gateways to falling. Furthermore, adding to that, being very forgetful about what to abandon and accept, and having unclear memory, these two are the six causes of the samaya being broken. Therefore, the antidote to mindfulness and awareness is to rely on it without reservation, just as blind people, when given the opportunity to distinguish by those who open their eyes, guard with caution, just as they do. Likewise, three times during the day and three times during the night, in six sessions, one should be cautious and cautious about all places of abandonment and acceptance, i.e., repetition is also an important instruction. Root text: If broken, restoring is superior to the lower ones. If the Hearer's vows are not concealed, they can be restored seven times. If concealed, even once there is no place for restoration, like a broken earthenware pot. The Bodhisattva's vows are like precious possessions that are damaged. Relying on other conditions, rely on a virtuous friend to restore them. The secret mantra vows are like a precious vessel that is damaged. Because it can be restored by one's own power, तत्काल गुरु बन्धु तर्पयेत् (Tibetan, Devanagari, tatkāla guru bandhu tarpayet, Romanized Sanskrit, immediately please the guru and spiritual friends). If the verbal vow is broken, practice the Vajra Dharma, recite the essence or the hundred-syllable mantra a hundred thousand times to remove obstacles. If the mental vow is broken, cut off speech for three years, and abide in oneness as the method of purification. This means that if the samaya is broken, then restoring it is superior to the lower ones, i.e., the Hearer's vows, if there is no concealment or the mind of concealment has not arisen, then it can be restored seven times, but if it is concealed, i.e., if the fault is hidden, then even once there is no place for restoration, like a broken earthenware pot. The Bodhisattva's vows are like precious possessions, like a damaged vessel, so one must rely on other conditions and rely on a virtuous friend to restore them. If the secret mantra vows or samaya are broken, it is like a precious vessel that is damaged, i.e., if there is damage, it can be restored by one's own power. Also, तत्काल गुरु बन्धु तर्पयेत् (Tibetan, Devanagari, tatkāla guru bandhu tarpayet, Romanized Sanskrit, immediately please the guru and spiritual friends). If the verbal vow is broken, i.e., if one has broken it with speech, such as slandering the guru, then one can restore it by immediately pleasing them with tsokhor, etc. If the verbal vow is broken, then practice the Vajra Dharma, recite the essence or the hundred-syllable mantra a hundred thousand times to remove obstacles. If the mental vow is broken, then cut off speech for three years, and abide in oneness as the method of purification.

If you recite the six-syllable mantra or the hundred-syllable mantra a hundred thousand times, you can confess. If you break the samaya from the heart, even if you outwardly protect the samaya to the lama with body and speech, but inwardly have wrong views, etc., then you must abide in single-pointedness without distraction, like a three-year retreat of silence, which is the supreme method of restoration. The root is: exceeding the limit of one-sixth of the time, it is called violation, breakage, overdue, and destruction. If a day, a month, a year, or two years have passed, it can be restored, but the latter is more serious than the former. If three years have passed, it cannot be restored. If violated, it is compensated with a tsokhor; if broken, it is compensated with all possessions; if overdue, it is offered with children, wife, and wealth; if destroyed, it is compensated with life. These classifications of life restoration are stated in the 'Vajra Sun Arrangement.' That is to say, in general, committing ordinary transgressions requires four conditions: in the cause of the transgression, there must be the thought of recognition; if it is related to body and speech, then completing the action through any of the three doors, ultimately possessing four conditions, will become a failure who abandons the mantra vows. Specifically, if dividing the day into three periods and the night into three periods, then one-sixth of the time, if the broken samaya is not confessed within that time, exceeding that time limit is called violation. If the breakage is not confessed for a day, similarly, if the breakage is not confessed for a month, it is called breakage. If the breakage is not confessed for a year or two, although it is said that it can still be restored, the latter is more serious than the former, even if three years are short of half a month or a few days, it is implied that it can be restored, but if three years are complete, it cannot be restored. These transgressions also have their respective methods of confession in order, if violated, it is compensated with a grand tsokhor; if broken, it is compensated with all one's possessions; if overdue, it is offered with children, wife, and any wealth, as well as precious jewels; if destroyed, it is compensated with life, for the sake of the lama, even sacrificing one's own life is not to be spared, one should not have a stingy mind, for example, when facing the danger of the king's punishment or the threat of enemies, etc., sacrificing one's own life in place of the lama is not to be considered. This method of classification and restoration is stated in the 'Vajra Sun Arrangement.' The root is: Furthermore, one must receive the four empowerments again, receive self-entry, and recite the generation and completion
