Generating, as well as upholding the true Dharma, cultivating compassion for sentient beings, and practicing the Dharma, these four are also regarded as supreme offerings. Regarding the aspect of confession: The so-called "action of lying," the mouth is the gateway to sin, therefore, regarding the non-virtuous actions of speech, the so-called "action of lying," the subsequent ripening result and habitual tendencies exist inseparably like jewels and dirt. That which exists like a seed of sin, fearing and dreading the practice of the ten virtues, as if fleeing elsewhere, that form of non-virtue is temporarily suppressed by a small amount of virtue, hidden in the darkness of existence, that is, the eighty thousand afflictions are not thin, but extremely thick. That concealment, even if others cannot wash it away, is purified and confessed by the blazing sunlight of the four powers. Feeling remorse, regret, fear, and shame for the non-virtuous deeds previously done is the power of aversion. One's own weakness in the face of the remedy, being overcome by afflictions, although one previously engaged in non-virtue, generating a vast amount of virtuous power that is far greater than that is the power of reliance. Being extremely remorseful for the non-virtue previously done, vowing again that even if one's life is at stake, one will not commit evil, is the power of restraint, the power of turning away from wrongdoing. For the sake of confessing sins, striving to cultivate the virtues of body, speech, and mind, especially taking refuge in the Three Jewels and cultivating the precious Bodhicitta, can exhaust sins. Moreover, even killing one's parents and self-arisen Buddhas, it is said that meditating on emptiness can purify it, because sin is an accumulated phenomenon. Furthermore, at the time of the preliminary practice, before one's mind is disturbed by any of the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance, with a single difference in intention, that is, delighting in performing virtue and abandoning evil. That is, if one is sincerely happy and joyful from the bottom of one's heart for the pure white virtue that is impartial and non-sectarian, then that merit is obtained by oneself in an instant, like a robber stealing it, using that analogy to illustrate rejoicing. Just by rejoicing, one can do that. Previously, King Prasenajit of Kosala continuously offered service to the Teacher and his retinue day and night.

At that time, a beggar living on the outskirts of the city greatly rejoiced and praised. The Teacher, who knows the three times, asked the king, "Is this dedication for the sake of your merit, O King? Or are you dedicating the power of your virtuous deeds to another who will gain more merit than you?" The king replied, "If my virtue makes another more meritorious, then I will first ask that person." Therefore, (the Teacher) dedicated the merit by mentioning the beggar's name, which is also the benefit of rejoicing. Furthermore, the actions of samsara, from which there is no liberation, are untamed, unpacified, unrestrained, and defiled only by sins and deceit. Towards offerings and generosity, they are as firm as an iron bolt, accustomed to stinginess, hardened like a diamond, and as stiff as a wild ass towards renunciation and faith. Such beings, whom no other means can tame, should also be urged to turn the three wheels of Dharma in sequence, encompassing definitive, provisional, and hidden meanings, taming them with the sharp wheel of whatever suits their disposition, without exceeding the scope of higher realms and definite goodness. Furthermore, if the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times and their sons, the Bodhisattvas, were to abandon us, both the Teacher and the teachings would disappear. If there were no Teacher and teachings, then these six kinds of beings who do not understand the acceptance and rejection of cause and effect would only see that they are merely in a state of experiencing suffering. In order to establish them in the state of liberation and omniscience, if we were to gather together the qualities of not passing into nirvana and sitting on the throne, and the value of all things, and pray that they remain for a long time for the sake of myself and other beings, then as a corresponding result, one would not die untimely. So it is said. Here also, if one aims for the happiness of samsara, trembling with attachment to self, and performs actions that appear virtuous with the thought of the eight worldly concerns, it will only ripen once in samsara, merely obtaining a body of higher realms, and then quickly be exhausted. However, for those who are eager to proclaim such suffering, if they possess the profound means of dedicating to enlightenment, just as iron is transformed into gold, it will surely transform into the cause of non-abiding nirvana. Such a noble
