Therefore, it should be recognized that these five aggregates are the source, place, and container of all suffering, like the cause, effect, and master of all suffering, and completely liberate from the karma and afflictions of the origin of suffering (Samudaya Satya). This is their intention. Root text: Having abandoned thus, the path of the middling person, riding the chariot of the Four Noble Truths, realizing the cessation of suffering (Nirodha Satya), the realm of peace, goes to the supreme state of liberation. Thus, abandoning the origin of suffering is liberation. Liberation is the path (Marga Satya), thereby abandoning suffering, realizing the cessation of suffering, which is the realm of peace. Goes to the supreme state of liberation. That is to say, among the Hearers (Shravakas), Solitary Realizers (Pratyekabuddhas), and the Great Vehicle (Mahayana), the essence of the Hearer Vehicle is the wisdom that seeks only its own liberation, becoming a means to realize the selflessness of the person. This is to cut off the root of self and no-self. The etymology is that they listen to the Dharma from the teacher and proclaim it to others, hence they are called Hearers. The necessity is to accomplish the Bodhi of the last existence, thereby definitely liberating from Samsara. The result is to obtain the Nirvana with remainder and the Nirvana without remainder. Among them, there are the Sutra School (Sautrantika) and the Vaibhashika School. The first is to rely on the Sutras, practice the path, and with profound wisdom, be close to the true emptiness. Although both schools realize the selflessness of the person, in terms of the realm of phenomena, the Vaibhashika School is superior. That is to say, the part-containing atoms, the main basis of mind, the basis of the arising of associated mental factors, the basis of non-associated compositional factors, the basis of the unconditioned and permanent, the basis of the appearance of the form aggregate, these five are mainly negated. The coarse appearance of the object of the realm of phenomena, the clinging of atoms touching without adhering, is also realized as partless, so it surpasses the Vaibhashika School. The Vaibhashika School is the one that follows the Great Commentary (Mahavibhasha), that is to say, it considers the conventional truth to be like a yak tail and tender grass, appearing as if gathered together, but in the ultimate truth, the atoms are part-containing, scattered, the continuum of cognition is conventional, the moment is ultimately partless, like water in a vase. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases are considered to be coarse appearances surrounded by atoms. The selflessness of the person

Although they also realize, they are inferior to the Sutra School because they acknowledge the existence of atoms and moments as the self-nature of phenomena. The way of understanding knowledge is: suffering should be known, origin should be abandoned, path should be cultivated, and cessation should be attained. By meditating on the nature of the path of selflessness, the paths of seeing and meditation should abandon afflictions. Having abandoned four hundred and twelve afflictions, and realizing the supreme wisdom of knowing cessation and non-arising, they desire to be liberated. Both the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools believe that during the practice of the path, one should meditate on selflessness and illusion as antidotes to the three poisons. As specific antidotes, for attachment, one should meditate on the eight impure objects, such as skeletons; for hatred, one should meditate on loving-kindness; and for ignorance, one should meditate on the order and reverse order of dependent origination. To counteract discursive thoughts, one should measure the number of breaths in and out and meditate without distraction. By meditating on selflessness in this way, one meditates on the meaning of cessation, where the object and the subject are extinguished, without fixating on anything. For ignorance and dullness, one should focus the mind on a lamp on the crown of the head. By practicing in this way, even if one has inferior or middling faculties, one can attain the result in this lifetime through great diligence. Some Bodhisattvas with sharp faculties believe that, due to the power of having previously practiced the five paths, they can complete the five paths in a single session. Furthermore, from the perspective of the Hearer Vehicle, they believe that their own path is a path of small mind and little accumulation, and therefore can only achieve Hearers and Solitary Realizers, let alone Mantras, and even the Great Vehicle cannot be accommodated. Therefore, the Teacher, with skillful means, established the vehicles for the three types of individuals. The nature of the Solitary Realizer Vehicle is: having become proficient in studying and contemplating the Sutra Pitaka of the Hearer Vehicle, being born in an age without Buddhas and Hearers in the next life, and without a teacher, attaining the result in the last lifetime, the method being the realization of one and a half selflessnesses. The definition is: not practicing for the sake of many sentient beings, but desiring to become a Buddha alone. The necessity is: to obtain the fruit of enlightenment that liberates from samsara. The result is two Arhats. The classification is twofold: living in groups like parrots, and dwelling alone like rhinoceroses. The former, by understanding the faults of arising in accordance with dependent origination and the merits of reversing dependent origination, cuts off the root. Based on the realization of one and a half selflessnesses, at the end of the paths of preparation and meditation, they manifest the knowledge of cessation and non-arising, thereby...
