The abodes. The Asuras also belong to the desire realm, having practiced a mixture of virtue and vice in their previous lives, and especially although they are cast by the karma of pretas, they are perfected by the virtue of the perfecting gods, so they are almost equal to the gods of wealth. At the water's edge of the hollow where Mount Meru is submerged in the ocean is Rahu. Below that, in order, are the Neck-garland, the Star-garland, and those who dwell on the golden ground, who are equal to the wealth of the desire gods, and their palaces, cities, assembly places, lands, trees, stone slabs, elephants, and excellent horses are as if competing with the gods. Other Asuras exist in uncertain places such as Jambudvipa, subcontinents, circumferences, and Mount Meru, and those are the non-humans of the demon class. The order of the abodes of desire has been shown. In the sky forty thousand yojanas above the desire realm, from bottom to top in order: the Brahma Assembly, Brahma Assistant, and Great Brahma are the three that arise from attaining the first dhyana, small, medium, and large. The Small Light, Immeasurable Light, and Clear Light are the three of the second dhyana, small, medium, and large, as before. The Small Virtue, Immeasurable Virtue, and Extensive Virtue are the three of the third dhyana, and so on. The Cloudless, Merit-born, and Great Fruit are the three of the fourth dhyana, as before. Above that are the five Pure Abodes: the No Affliction, No Heat, Well Appearing, Well Seeing, and Akanistha. These are accomplished by alternately meditating on the four dhyanas. The lower four are the four abodes of ordinary beings, and the upper five are the five Pure Abodes of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Moreover, from below the Great Brahma to above the world of the four continents, there are one thousand koti of such worlds horizontally surrounding it, and its edge is surrounded by one iron mountain, and above it, like the lid of a vessel, is covered by the abode of the Very Clear Light, which is called the Small Thousandfold World. Again, one thousand of such worlds are arranged directly, surrounding it in a circle, and its edge, like a lid, is covered by one abode of Extensive Virtue, and below it is called the Intermediate Thousandfold World. Again, one thousand of such worlds are arranged horizontally, and its edge is as before, and in general, the starting foundation of each world is a golden foundation, and that

There are individual water mandalas. The basis of all of these is supported upwards by a great wind mandala. What is below is not supported downwards, but is called the universe of the great trichiliocosm. It is said that the formless realm must also be included therein. Moreover, the four directions and eight intermediate directions of the great trichiliocosm are each covered by measurable skies, and all of these pervade without interruption in the manner of support and supported, just as before. All of these surfaces of the earth, empty lands, all the earth deities, are filled with humans, gods, asuras, and so on. It is necessary to know that below is filled with the three lower realms. As for the basis of counting the trichiliocosm and so on, it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: "Four continents and the sun and moon, Mount Meru and the desire gods, a thousand Brahma worlds, a thousand is considered the initial aggregate. That thousand multiplied by a thousand is the intermediate world realm. That thousand multiplied by a thousand is the trichiliocosm, which perishes and arises together." Therefore, the wind mandala below supports upwards, the great fruit supports downwards, formation, destruction, existence, emptiness, are roughly the same. If one distinguishes them specifically, when the three elements of fire, water, and wind destroy, one should also know the causes and conditions of the non-destruction of each of the four dhyanas. Such a trichiliocosm is called the Sahā world. As for how humans originate from the gods, the sutras say that they originate from the gods of clear light, and it is also said that they originate from the four great kings. The tantras say that the sons of the gods, the sun and moon, were born by transformation, and from them the people of Jambudvipa originated, therefore they are known as the descendants of karma. At that time, the people were similar to the gods of the form realm, without obvious afflictions, and their qualities were almost the same as the gods, but gradually, when the good kalpa began to decline, merit and light also diminished. Latent afflictions were prone to arise. Life expectancy decreased from immeasurable years to eighty thousand years, and the height of the body was thirty-two cubits. Then gradually it decreased to twenty, sixteen, eight, and four, gradually decreasing until life expectancy reached ten years. The other three continents also originated from the gods, and the skies of each of the four continents also correspond to the colors of the four directions of Mount Meru. In short, gradually decreasing from immeasurable years, when one can live for hundreds of millions of years, people are born from eggs.
