and the two minds that appear but do not realize due to the reason of not paying attention. For example, blue is impermanent, for blue, like the direct perception of the blue sense organ; for yellow, like the direct perception of the sense organ when paying attention and thinking. The refutation and establishment of mental speculation have been explained elsewhere. Dividing valid cognition from the perspective of definite numbers, there are two types: direct perception and inference. The definition of direct perception is: whatever is free from conceptualization, non-erroneous, and newly realizes its own object. This applies to all four types of direct perception. The characteristic of direct perception is: knowledge that is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. The divisions are: sense direct perception, mental direct perception, self-awareness, and yogic direct perception. In order, it is: other-knowing consciousness that is directly born from one's own substantial cause, the sense organ with form, is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. The divisions are: form-perceiving sense direct perception, sound-perceiving, smell-perceiving, taste-perceiving, and touch-perceiving sense direct perception, and five others. The definitions in order are: other-knowing consciousness that is directly born from one's own substantial cause, the eye sense organ, the ear, the nose, the tongue, and the body sense organ, is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. The divisions are: from form-perceiving mental sense direct perception to touch-perceiving mental sense direct perception, and five others. The definitions in order are: other-knowing consciousness that is directly born from one's own substantial cause, form-perceiving, sound-perceiving, smell-perceiving, taste-perceiving, and touch-perceiving mental sense organ, is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. The moments after sense direct perception are all mental direct perception, because it is other-knowing consciousness that arises from one sense direct perception with its object as a companion, which immediately acts as a condition, and is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. It is mental consciousness, because it is consciousness that is directly born from one's own substantial cause, the mental sense organ. Because it is consciousness that is born from the interruption of the previous consciousness that is of the same type as oneself. It seems reasonable to explain it this way. The definition of self-aware direct perception is: the grasping aspect that is directed only inward, exists on top of all consciousnesses. The definition of yogic direct perception is: the noble knowledge that arises from the power of meditating on the true meaning, is free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. The divisions are: Hearer, Solitary Realizer, and Great Vehicle yogic direct perception, and three others. For example, the path of seeing of the Hearer, and

The path of seeing that transcends the mundane is like the path of seeing in the Mahayana. Definition of inferential valid cognition: A mind that newly realizes its object, which is hidden, based on a sign that possesses the three modes. It is divided into three types: Inference based on the power of things, such as the mind that realizes sound is impermanent based on the sign of being produced. Inference based on fame, such as the inference that realizes that the moon with a rabbit can be expressed by the word "moon" based on the sign that exists in the object to be realized. Inference based on trust, such as the mind that realizes that the words of the scriptures, which are purified by the three examinations, such as "giving leads to enjoyment," do not deceive the meaning they explain. From the perspective of valid cognition as an object-possessor being able to generate certainty, there are two types: valid cognition that is certain from itself and valid cognition that is certain from others. Definition of the first: Any valid cognition that generates certainty that it is valid by its own power. For example, inference that generates certainty that it is valid by its own power, and the four types of direct perception. Definition of the second: Any valid cognition that generates certainty that it is valid by the power of others. For example, inference that generates certainty that it is valid by the power of others, and the three types of direct perception. Alternatively, the examples of those two are, respectively, the valid cognition in the mindstream of a person who is familiar with the language of valid cognition, and the valid cognition in the mindstream of a person who is not familiar with the language of valid cognition. Some scholars believe that the definitions of valid cognition that is certain from itself and valid cognition that is certain from others are, respectively: Any valid cognition that can generate certainty that it is non-deceptive by its own power, and the two that generate certainty by the power of others. The first can be divided into: inferential valid cognition, self-cognizing direct valid cognition, direct valid cognition of functional appearance, direct valid cognition of habituation. Valid cognition that is certain from others is direct valid cognition with a cause of confusion, such as now being doubtful whether the red glow burning in the distance is the color of fire, and later relying on other valid cognition, determining that the red glow burning in the distance is the color of fire, becoming non-deceptive, like the root direct perception that needs to determine that the red glow burning in the distance is the color of fire and holds it. Definition of conception: If it is one's own appearing object, it must be a generality. Definition of non-conceptual consciousness: Any consciousness, self
