The reason for saying so is that two situations are mentioned. For the Transcender, there are seven substances, and the initial entry has three forms. For those who think there are Stream-enterers, etc., by preventing evil thoughts, the noble ones of the Transcenders, correctly explain the abandonment and realization, leading themselves and others to follow the wise, thereby freeing themselves from the evil thoughts of fools. This is called the summarizing verse. The explanation of the Transcender is finished. So, what is it that is abandoned simultaneously? In the Compendium of Topics, it says: 'The so-called Stream-enterer, there are two kinds of Stream-enterers, namely gradual and, simultaneously and definitely removing.' The gradual is as has been shown. Simultaneously and definitely removing means that after realizing all truths, relying on the path of immediate consequence, with the transcendental path, simultaneously abandoning the afflictions that operate in the three realms, this is considered the fruit of Stream-entry and the fruit of Arhat and the two fruits. Usually, at the time of seeing the Dharma or at the time of death, one obtains omniscience. If one cannot do so, it is also because one has the power of aspiration, and due to the power of aspiration, one is born in the desire realm, and when there is no Buddha appearing, one will become a Pratyekabuddha.' Thus it is said. This also needs to be understood from five aspects: from what time, relying on what place, with what kind of path, and how to simultaneously abandon what should be abandoned, and what kind of person is such a person, and how the fruit is ultimately manifested. From what time does one simultaneously abandon? From the sixteenth moment after realizing the Four Noble Truths, because before the path of seeing, the path of accumulation does not have the ability to simultaneously abandon what should be abandoned, and also at the time of the path of seeing, one does not abandon what should be abandoned on the path of cultivation. Relying on what place, with what kind of path does one simultaneously abandon? From the nine grounds of the three realms, one abandons with the transcendental path relying solely on the immediate consequence of the first dhyana, because if one does not rely on the immediate consequence, one must rely on the dhyanas above it, but that is not correct, because one cannot obtain the fundamental dhyana without abandoning the ninth grade of the desire realm, and the simultaneous abandoner abandons everything in the three realms.

Because afflictions must be abandoned all at once. Therefore, this (referring to the Anāgāmi fruit) and the Srotaāpanna and Sakṛdāgāmin fruits must rely on the preliminary concentration of the first dhyāna. Because one must rely on this or higher dhyānas, and one has not attained the actual basis of dhyāna. Also, it must be the path of transcendence, because the worldly path cannot abandon what is to be abandoned all at once. Here, "unobstructed" means that in all the preliminary concentrations of the first dhyāna, although there is desire for the desire realm, only the undefiled preliminary concentration is taken, so "unobstructed" means that there is nothing that cannot be abandoned among all the objects to be abandoned of one's own ground, lower ground, and higher ground, and this is not present in the defiled preliminary concentration. Why is it said that only this (preliminary concentration of the first dhyāna) is the "unobstructed path," as some Abhidharma masters say? Because the meaning of "unobstructed" is as previously explained, so it is only this (preliminary concentration of the first dhyāna). Because one cannot attain its actual basis without fully attaining the preliminary concentration of the lower ground; and when the preliminary concentration is complete, the ninth affliction of the lower ground has already been abandoned, so the actual basis will not surpass the lower ground. Considering this, the Abhidharmakośa says, "The eight surpass their own higher ground," meaning that only the actual basis of the first dhyāna, and two special dhyānas, namely the latter three dhyānas and the first three dhyānas of the formless realm, can surpass their own ground and higher ground. So, how are the objects to be abandoned abandoned all at once? It should be said that, in general, there are two types of objects to be abandoned: those to be abandoned by seeing and those to be abandoned by meditation. Regarding this, the Abhidharmakośa believes that even what is to be abandoned by seeing is abandoned gradually, for example, through the two wisdoms of the Dharma-acceptance of suffering and the Dharma-knowledge of suffering, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing of the suffering of the desire realm are abandoned; through the two wisdoms of the subsequent acceptance of suffering and the subsequent knowledge of suffering, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing of the suffering of the upper realms are abandoned. Similarly, it should be understood that the same applies to the remaining truths, as it is said that "the desire realm is its aftermath." Then, doesn't the Abhidharmakośa say, "The antidote to the path of meditation is cessation or the Dharma-knowledge of the path, which is the antidote to the three realms"? There is no fault, this is because the knowledge of cessation and the knowledge of the path among the ten wisdoms are included in the path of meditation, and from the perspective of categories, they are the antidotes to the three realms, but it is not said that one antidote can simultaneously abandon the afflictions of the three realms. The Compendium of Topics says, suffering
