The distinction between those who have entered and those who abide, called the Ladder for the Wise to Ascend. The distinction between those who have entered and those who abide, called the Ladder for the Wise to Ascend. The treatise called The Distinction Between Those Who Have Entered and Those Who Abide, called the Ladder for the Wise to Ascend, exists. I respectfully prostrate to the Buddhas, their sons, and disciples! The holy speaker, the destroyer of evil speech, the crown jewel of the Shakyas who transcends existence in these three realms. Having become the god of gods, the guide of gods and humans, the unequaled one, the stream of nectar of his speech. Even tasting a small portion of it can subdue the demon army of grasping at reality and triumph over the battlefield of wrong views. May the source of all desires, the teaching of the Thubten, never be obscured by the stain of biased views! The master's tradition, the scriptural and experiential teachings, having seen everything with the vast eye of Dharma, and raised the victory banner of the pure teaching, may the noble ones have compassion on me! Those who wish to cross the endless ocean of samsara and abide in the supreme land of liberation must rely on a refuge that never deceives. Otherwise, like a weak person sinking deeply into the mud, wanting to go to the other shore without relying on others, it will only be in vain. Because other methods besides the path shown by the teacher and his Shravakas only lead beings into samsara and cannot eradicate the root of samsara. Because those who are outside of this Dharma lack the realization of selflessness, and clinging to the view of self is the root that binds beings to samsara. Therefore, those with intelligence should contemplate the nature of the Three Refuges. Among them, special emphasis should be placed on elucidating the distinction between those who have entered and those who abide. Because I see that those who do not have a deep understanding of the classifications in the many mother tantras often become confused. So, who are those who have entered and those who abide? They are the Stream-enterer's path and the Stream-enterer's fruition, as well as the Once-returner.

Entering the fruit and abiding in the fruit, entering the fruit of non-return and abiding in the fruit, entering the fruit of Arhat and abiding in the fruit. Thus, there are four entering and four abiding, making eight. What is entering the fruit of stream-entry? Regarding this, the Dharma theorists have two different views on who should be established as entering the stream-entry. These are the Vaibhashikas among the Dharma theorists and the scholar Arya Asanga. Among them, the Vaibhashikas believe that all eight entering and abiding are noble, so the first entry also begins with the Dharma-kshanti of suffering, which is the boundary of the first entry. As it is said in the Treasury of Knowledge: Those fifteen moments, for seeing the unseen, the path of seeing, sharp and dull faculties, followers of faith and Dharma, when the objects to be abandoned by cultivation are not abandoned, enter the first fruit. This is what was said. However, there is no disagreement that the final boundary is established from the Anvaya-kshanti of the path, because when the sixteenth moment is attained, all that is to be abandoned by seeing is completely abandoned, and just that is enough to attain the fruit of stream-entry. The scholar Asanga believes that the boundary of the first entry is established from the path of application. In the Compendium of Topics it says: What is entering the fruit of stream-entry? It is the person who abides in accordance with the part of definite distinction and abides in the fifteen moments of the mind of the path of seeing. That is to say, it is the path of application that generates the path of application and the path of seeing on one seat without interruption. And the practitioner of the path of application who generates the path of seeing after rebirth, and the practitioner of the path of application who generates the path of seeing in this life but not on one seat, it is obvious that their path of application is not recognized. Because it says in the commentary on the Compendium of Topics: The part in accordance with the definite distinction starts from one seat until the first fruit is not attained. So it says. If so, what is the need for one seat? It means that if one does not strive to abandon the uncommon objects to be abandoned of the fruit that one has entered, then one has not entered it, because the meaning of entering is to eliminate the obstacles to attaining the fruit and to accomplish the favorable conditions. Therefore
