Its very nature is also the conventional truth. The conventional truth is also said to be emptiness. This is not its source either, because it takes impermanence as an example of one not existing without the other, so this is also the reasoning that it is not different from that. Therefore, those who wish themselves well should see in the commentary: 'The nature of the realm of formations and the ultimate nature, the nature of being free from one and otherness, whoever distinguishes between one and many natures, those are engaging in improper views.' Thus, one should abandon the evil view of one and otherness that the Blessed One himself condemned. So, how should the two truths be distinguished? Birth and death, purity and impurity, negation and affirmation, etc., many different characteristics appear in the mind, and in the face of that conventional mind, whatever aspect of appearance is free from the harm of reason is the conventional truth; and if that conventional truth is analyzed, it is devoid of the entire net of elaboration, such as appearing and not appearing, being born and not being born, having self and not having self, etc., this is called the ultimate truth, and it is only for the sake of leading others to the correct path that it is accepted out of necessity, and saying 'free from elaboration' is only naming it in front of others, and it is not considered to be established as a dharma of being free from elaboration. Thus, in the Two Truths it says: 'How it appears, this alone is, the conventional, the other is the ultimate.' And in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds it says: 'The ultimate is not the object of the mind, the mind is considered to be the conventional.' When it is declared like this, if the ultimate is not this very dependent origination like an illusion, and there is nothing other than this, then what is it? Therefore, for this, because there is no point of focus for the mind, it is said that one cannot tolerate the view of nihilism, this is very true. Why is that? Because from beginningless time, one has been very accustomed to the extreme clinging to the views of abandoning and adopting, and negating and affirming, and because the habitual tendencies are deep, when the discriminating mind cannot completely grasp 'this is it,' then one will feel displeasure and fear towards all the antidotes that hold emptiness, this is the nature of things. Therefore, in this present time when the dregs of views are flourishing, beings are very unfortunate, and for them, if it is like this, that some part is empty in essence so there is nothing, and some part is actually existent so it is not empty, and in this way some are removed and some are established, then the discriminating mind will say from itself: Now I...

Although it seems that many people, thinking they have found a place of refuge, proclaim that doctrine and, with great respect for its teachings, offer with melodious sounds, fame, and reverence, those with wisdom who have firm faith in emptiness, do not rely solely on scriptures, but follow reason, abandon the good treatises that fulfill all clinging thoughts. Regarding the dependent arising of conventional truth, when appearances occur, it is without inherent existence, like an illusion, do not deny its existence, nor exaggerate by asserting that ultimate truth exists apart from all elaboration, is permanent, one should learn the doctrine of detachment from extremes. Secondly, from the two truths: "Although appearances are similar, their functions differ, due to being potent and impotent, the distinction between real and unreal is made, this is the distinction of conventional truth." Thus, conventional truth is divided into two types, true and false. Regarding ultimate truth, it is also divided into non-conceptual ultimate truth, which is free from all elaboration, and conceptual ultimate truth, which only negates a portion of elaboration. As it says in that very text: "The negation of birth and so forth, because it accords with reality, I consider it to be ultimate truth." This is spoken regarding the objects of inference based on reasons such as one and many, and because it does not transcend the fabrication of conceptualization, it is called imputed ultimate truth. Alternatively, the post-attainment appearances of great beings are true, while the self-appearances of hearers, solitary realizers, and ordinary beings are false conventional truth, because there is or is not clinging to appearances as grasper and grasped, if it is said thus, it will accord with the view of this teacher. Thus, this summary is arranged according to the views of this teacher and other Svatantrikas, but because of the fear of prolixity, the extensive explanations and the presentations of the Prasangikas are not written for the time being. Fifth, in what? In practice, that is, in practicing giving and so forth. The reason: If that object exists, then those three must exist, therefore, one practices in what is called the emptiness of form, and in no way does the mind become two-fold, thus one practices, therefore, it is also said of giving and so forth, giving and so forth, that is, the giver, the receiver, and so forth, are not conceived of separately, hence the word "and so forth." Sixth, in what? Because of possessing the excellence of the wisdom that realizes that very reality, the Buddha tames.
