The three paths are named by analogy to fields, and the names have been established. Therefore, regarding the three preparatory practices, there are two situations: whether or not they possess distinctiveness. The distinctiveness is established from the three grounds, so the boundary of the ground that is first attained is shown. Third, each ground has three levels: lower, middle, and upper. The three paths have small, medium, and large capacities, which is the reason for their similarity. Fourth, the eighth ground and above are grounds of peaceful effort, so if one cultivates with effort, they will arise sequentially, but if there is no effort, will they arise instantaneously? To dispel this doubt, it is a determination. Understanding that those wisdoms arise sequentially is the definitive view, which is the view of summarizing the explanation. Others explain that the wisdoms and the three paths arise sequentially, which is given as a reason that accords with the Dharma, but this is not reasonable. Because what needs to be shown and those two, apart from the opposite of determination and definiteness, have no difference in meaning, the need and the reason will become indistinguishable. Fifth, some say that the wisdom of the pure ground, which is encompassed by the special path, is harmful, but this is not correct, because it is the same as what is to be proven. Therefore, in the stage of forbearance, one abides in the faultlessness of the bodhisattva; in the stage of heat, one destroys all latent predispositions; and it is said that it shows that the Dharma of the three wisdoms is completely perfected, so they think that these are not permissible for those who possess the characteristics of the path of preparation, although there is not much unreasonableness in saying so. However, the main point is that if all six stages of the path are made to possess characteristics, then repetition is unavoidable. The wise ones think that at that time, the direct realizations with the names of the three paths are the path of preparation and the path of seeing, and not the path of cultivation among the nine grounds. The eighth ground and so on are not established in this way, because there is no doubt about that. The other views established by the followers of this commentary are three. The first is the view of Dharma Friend, which is that in the two situations of first learning and later stabilizing what has been learned, the paths of the three wisdoms that are spoken of are, from karma and up to the path of cultivation, sequentially newly produced, including both mundane and supramundane situations. In the first three preparatory practices, what is spoken of with the names of the three paths is generated in the continuum.

Having finished, then again making familiar with the previously seen paths of practice, is only within the realm of the transcendent. That is also because "decisive part" is representative, so from the mindfulness of the accumulation path to the miraculous feet are also included. Because it is thought that one can understand through "discriminating part" and "seeing" etc., even if the boundary of the highest point of the practice path of the first three stages is not clearly grasped, it is clear that one wants to generate it from the second ground because one wants to generate it first. In addition, this (referring to this treatise) places the paths of the complete stage after the completion of the second ground, and places the peak path after the eighth ground. As it is said, the ultimate of perfection is in the manner to be explained below, after the immovable ground is obtained. From then on, when making familiar with the warmth etc. that have been experienced before, realization with twelve aspects will arise. It is also said, "Here, the 'peak' is said to be the most excellent of the practices that have been familiarized with in the past, such as when gradually arising for the first time and on the second ground, so all the meanings contained in this stage are placed on the 'peak'." Thus, in the Ornament for Clear Realization, the realization of the ultimate of perfection arising from the combination of the complete stage is explained in this way. The peak is the meaning of being more excellent than everything, and is the meaning of excellence arising from familiarity in the second ground etc. There is also a view that the meaning of the peak refers to the path of seeing of the three wisdoms etc., and the warmth etc. of this path are the most excellent. If so, it is also possible to start from the third ground. Also, from then on, that is showing the sixth stage, called obtaining the clear realization of the peak etc. That is obtained until the tenth ground. This gradual process is counted from the outside of where the peak is established. The above. Second, regarding the view of lineage establishment, why are decisive parts etc. explained for the first six clear realizations? As an answer to this, it is because of the difference in cultivating the base etc. in different ways, that is, because the ways of meditating on them are different, so decisive parts etc. are explained for these six. From then on, it should be known that decisive parts and liberation parts etc. are explained for the three wisdoms, thus extending it. The reason explained there is shown through "worldly" etc., and that is also the Hearers and Solitary Realizers.
