And, contemplating the ultimate result of practice is also a form of attention. As it is said. There are two aspects here: the definite number of attentions and the identification of each. The first is: why are the attentions established as seven? If, through approximation, what is to be abandoned in the lower ground has not been abandoned, and what is to be attained in the higher ground has not been attained, then the actual result cannot be obtained. Therefore, they are established as seven. Thus, among the cause, nature, and result of the path of approximation, the first, to generate what has not been generated, there are the first two attentions. The first attention causes the mind to focus after knowing what should be abandoned and what should be attained, and the second attention initiates diligence for that purpose. Making what has already arisen excellent is the fifth attention, which, after examining what has been abandoned and what has not, causes the remaining to-be-abandoned to be completely eliminated. The second is the third, fourth, and sixth attentions, which subdue the great, medium, and small afflictions of the lower ground. The third is the seventh attention. Likewise, in the Hearer's Ground, it says: "Here, through the attention of individually knowing the characteristics, one also fully knows what should be abandoned, and also fully knows what should be attained, and also focuses the mind for the sake of abandoning what should be abandoned and attaining what should be attained. Through the attention arising from faith, one also truly initiates practice for the sake of what should be abandoned and what should be attained. Through the attention of extreme solitude, one abandons great afflictions. Through the attention of gathering joy, one abandons medium afflictions. Through the attention of conduct, one settles the mind on the absence of manifest pride. Through the attention of ultimate practice, one abandons small afflictions. Through the attention of the result of ultimate practice, one experiences the result of meditating on those aspects." So it is said. The second is: first, desire is the extreme increase of suffering and is not pacified, and is extremely short-lived, while the first dhyana is the opposite of that, so it is coarse and peaceful. Thus, contemplating with a mixture of hearing and thinking, for the sake of severing the individual characteristics of the upper and lower realms, is the attention of extremely knowing the characteristics. Thus, after believing in peace and coarseness in the upper and lower realms for a long time, from that.

Reaching tranquility and insight beyond expectation through reliance on faith is the attention arising from faith. Through the power of familiarizing with it for a long time, the path of abandoning the three great afflictions that are initially desired will arise, and the attention associated with the arisen path is the attention of extreme solitude. When it separates one from the afflictions of desire and the evil destinies associated with it, from then on, one will abandon afflictions and thus delight in solitude. When seeing both as beneficial and feeling the small joy and happiness arising from solitude, in order to be free from sleepiness, drowsiness, and agitation, one will delight in it with attention that is constantly joyful, and one will be weary of it with attention that is universally weary. This is the attention of gathering joy, which is the stage of abandoning the three medium afflictions. The attention of becoming joyful and weary is, in order, to generate desire for abandonment and to contemplate the faults of what has not been abandoned. When striving to abandon in this way, whether it is the cause or the place, the entanglement of desire that hinders virtuous conduct will not arise. At this time, one will think: Do I not enjoy this even though I have it? Or do I not enjoy it because I do not have it? Then, by attending to the ugly sign, desire for desire arises. At this time, one will think: My mind has not yet been liberated from attachment to desire. In order to abandon the remaining objects to be abandoned, one cultivates tranquility and fierceness. This is the attention of examination. Thus, constantly examining what has been abandoned and what has not been abandoned, in order to abandon the manifest objects to be abandoned that have not been abandoned, the antidote to the three small afflictions of desire arises. This is the attention of ultimate application. However, this is only temporary abandonment, not permanent abandonment, because the seeds have not been uprooted. Because the worldly path does not have this power. Immediately following this, by the power of it, one enters the actual state of the first dhyana, and the attention associated with the actual state arises. This is the attention of the fruit of application. The second is, as stated in the Abhidharmasamuccaya: "Just like the first dhyana, it is the same up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception." However, in the common language of Abhidharma, when one begins to think in the upper realms,
