Since both are merely nominally the same, there cannot be a difference of substance and imputation between the two. Fourth, there are four root divisions, and when divided by object, each of them becomes nine, so there are thirty-six. Furthermore, if divided by realm, there are one hundred and eight. Fifth, the object to be examined is definitely divided into grasper and grasped, so there are also two conceptualizations for them. The grasped is also definitely divided into common characteristics or individual characteristics of the Great and Small Vehicles, so there are two grasped conceptualizations. The object of attachment to the grasper is also definitely divided into substance and imputation, so the number of conceptualizations with that object is also definitely two. This is the definite number of the four root conceptualizations, and dividing each into nine is to accord with the thoughts of the disciples who are close to the retinue, not a definite number that resides in the objects themselves. Then, why are there two explanations of grasped conceptualization, one with each of the common characteristics as its object and the other with only the individual characteristics as its object? The first is said to abandon the common attachment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the second is said to abandon the uncommon attachment of those with the Bodhisattva lineage. Sixth, the root conceptualizations follow the order of the four determinations, and dividing the branches into nine is merely for the sake of expression, there is no other reason. Seventh, in the "Sunlight Sutra," it says, "Conceptualization is in the aspect of the grasped, and not in the aspect of the grasper," which is a fourfold statement. The first statement is the six objects, such as form. The second statement is the consciousness with one moment. The third statement is the very nature of another moment. The fourth statement is the Perfection of Wisdom that is separated from those aspects. This is what is said. Regarding its meaning, earlier ones said that the first statement is the conceptualization of the six objects included in the sphere of phenomena, excluding mental factors. The second statement is the conceptualization of something like the first moment of the eye consciousness that apprehends blue. The third statement is the conceptualization of the continuum of that very eye consciousness, which is grasping its own object, and because the subsequent valid cognition takes it as an object, it is the grasped. Then, is the second statement also the same? Because ordinary beings cannot ascertain the moment, but can grasp the continuum, so it is not the same. Furthermore, regarding the counting statement, it is not said that being too pervasive is not a fault, but rather it shows that such a situation exists, not that it is definite, so this is how it is explained, but the second statement
