of obscurations, the supreme vehicle is taught as an antidote to it. Like the teachings given to subdue the eight faults, such as teaching the first intention to counter disrespect towards the Buddha, and to counter disrespect towards the teachings, it is said that if one serves and honors as many Buddhas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, then one will generate realization of the Great Vehicle. This is explained in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle as referring to another meaning. Its meaning is explained in the commentary as being taught with the intention of referring to other Great Vehicle realizations through the teachings. To counter the obscuration of laziness, it is said to refer to another time, such as the mere mention of the name of the Tathagata Immaculate Moonbeam ensuring the attainment of unsurpassed enlightenment. To counter being content with little, it is like sometimes disparaging generosity and other times praising others. To counter indulging in desire, it is like praising the richness of the Buddha-fields. To counter indulging in pride, it is like praising the perfections of some Buddhas. To counter regret, it is like saying that those who harm Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will go to higher realms. To counter the obscuration of uncertainty, it is like prophesying to the Hearers and teaching the One Vehicle. These, along with the two types of intention and hidden intention, are the assertions of Mind-Only. The fourth is to observe how to lead the profound meaning of what is said elsewhere, as it is said: Knowing what is without essence as essence, abiding well in what is inverted, being greatly afflicted by afflictions, one will attain supreme enlightenment. Among these, essence is the mind's distraction, and the absence of it is the absence of essence. Inverted is inverted from purity, bliss, permanence, and self. Affliction is fatigue from prolonged asceticism. These are stated in the Ornament of Sutras: Hearers and self-nature, likewise subduing faults, and the profound meaning of what is said, these four are hidden intentions. This is how it is explained. Second, in the commentary, it is said: Intention is merely keeping in mind, and does not acknowledge dependence on others. Hidden intention is dependent on grasping that very thing. Regarding this, the former are the basis of intention.

To say "primarily showing the necessity" is not the intention. If that were the case, these two would have to contradict each other, because there must be a difference of opposition between the primary necessity and the non-primary intention. The non-contradiction is that the first and last intentions are both said to be euphemistic intentions for the sake of the antidote, and the second one mentioned in the *Compendium of The Great Vehicle* is also a euphemistic intention for the sake of the antidote. Furthermore, the statement "I am the All-Seeing One" is primarily spoken to avert contempt for the Buddha, and not primarily to explain that the Dharmakayas of all Buddhas are the same. Therefore, all non-literal meanings that require searching for another intention are done for the sake of necessity and not for the sake of intention. So what is the meaning of the scripture? It means that the literal meaning is not the intention of that word, but it is explained separately as "spoken with this in mind." From the point of view of showing the speaker's intention, it is an intention. From the point of view of not showing it directly, but showing "this is the necessity" with euphemistic language, it is a euphemistic intention, because euphemistic or obscure language is euphemistic. In this way, the expression of meaning taught by Śānti is intentional, and the explanation of the necessity of the taught word is also in accordance with euphemistic intention. Therefore, the two, intention and euphemistic intention, are established in the same way as the literal meaning, but they are established in different ways, namely, "spoken with this in mind" and "spoken for this purpose." To say that intention does not depend on grasping the other party means that from that point of view, it is not considered intention, and the euphemistic intention says "that itself," clearly showing that both are considered to be the same basis. The commentators have not even examined this method well. Third, all of these are literal meanings, because intention must seek another intention beyond the literal meaning, and euphemistic intention is non-literal language. As the *Compendium* says: "What is the ascertainment of euphemistic intention? It is that which expresses a different meaning with a collection of names, a collection of words, and a collection of letters, and completely transforms the meaning." So, does all transformation become euphemistic intention? It is accepted. So how do you distinguish? Only by reversal. If it is not so, intention and euphemistic intention
