In the text called "Ground," it says: Because attachment and faith are ceasing, the power that is in accordance with oneself and one's followers is placed on the alaya consciousness, and from the ripening of the habitual tendencies, an impure other-powered consciousness arises. For this consciousness, children conceptualize by holding onto the apprehended and the apprehender as being cut off externally and internally, but the apprehended that is a different entity from consciousness does not exist at all. This is like those who assert Ishvara, etc., as the cause, saying: "The cow is the cause of the herd of cows, crystal is the appearance of water, branches are the limbs of trees, it is the cause of all sentient beings." Just as Ishvara, etc., are asserted as the creator of beings, so too, the alaya consciousness proponents assert that the consciousness is the basis of all objects of cognition, and thus assert it as the all-seed. The difference is that Ishvara is permanent, while the alaya consciousness is impermanent. Therefore, for those who are accustomed to non-Buddhist views in many lifetimes, they are tamed by explaining the alaya consciousness. So, when stating the views of the Mind-Only school in the commentary, it is often said that "there is no external object," and "the apprehended that is different from consciousness does not exist at all." For the apprehended of form, etc., it is said with the distinction "different from consciousness," and in the commentary on "the sense organ eye with form," it says, "The eye sense organ that is different from consciousness does not exist." Like this, is it to be admitted in the case of Mind-Only that the object to be negated is qualified with the same distinction as before? Or, should it be admitted without distinction that there are no five forms, etc., and five sense organs with form? If you think so, although this commentary contains both qualified and unqualified statements, when preventing birth, there are many cases where the object to be negated is qualified. Just as in all cases where there is no qualification, that method is adopted, so too, it should be done here. Here, in the text "Compendium of the Great Vehicle," which states the former position, it says: "Why is it called the consciousness that takes?" Because it is the cause of all sense organs with form, and it is the place of close appropriation of all bodies. Thus, for as long as life lasts, until following after, it holds these five sense organs with form without being destroyed. And, the common one is the destruction of the vessel world.

That is the seed of the support. The uncommon one is the seed of the birthplace of each individual self. The common one is the seed of the arising of non-sentient things. Thus, it is said that the seed of the vessel world on the Alaya consciousness is the seed of non-sentient things. The Compendium also says the same. In the commentary on the Sutra of Dependent Arising, it is said that due to the causes of the Alaya consciousness, name and form are established, in which the aggregates of name are explained as the remaining four aggregates, and form is explained as the four great elements and the form produced by the four great elements. Thus, if there is no form, then there is none, but it exists in the other two realms, and so on. The Mind-Only school acknowledges form, which seems limitless. If it is not like this, then in the Mind-Only context, on the basis of the form aggregate, making terms such as form and sound, all become newly created terms, and it would not be possible to make terms only with the terms established by them. Although it is seen that such terms cannot be established, it is still said that this doctrine is good, which does not appear to any Buddhist in the holy land of India. The meaning of the name "speaking within knowledge" is that knowledge is form, sound, etc., and they do not want it outside, but say that it speaks of things within knowledge. If the Mind-Only school acknowledges form, sound, etc., then their denial of it being external becomes a mere dispute over names, because the forms, etc., that appear externally are established as external. If this and the Madhyamaka school prevent form, etc., from being established by their own characteristics, and establish form, etc., it is because the forms, etc., that appear to be established by their own characteristics are established as being established by their own characteristics. The dispute over whether it exists or not is like a dispute over names, so both schools appear to be in great difficulty. Not only is the Madhyamaka view difficult, but also in the Mind-Only view, if the external is prevented, then form, etc., will also become non-existent, and if form, etc., are established, then the external must also be established, it seems to be seen. Although these are difficult, I did not write them for fear of being too many. For what reason is the establishment of the scriptures said to be what was said before, therefore, what is the nature of what is accomplished by other-powered nature, this must be
