Therefore, pleasing things are seen as arising from virtuous deeds. The wisdom that is devoid of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, that is, realizing that inherent existence is not established, will be liberated from samsara. Therefore, the Buddhas, for each individual being, carefully and definitively examine the reasons why the differences in actions lead to differences in results, using valid reasoning. For those who denigrate actions and results, thinking that this will destroy conventional truth, the ripening of the results of actions is inconceivable. Therefore, even the mind that relies on actions and results, that is, speculation, is prohibited. In this treatise, because of the fear of losing the certainty of cause and effect from many paths, know that efforts are made from many paths to generate the certainty of cause and effect. On top of the view of emptiness also becoming a companion to stabilize that certainty, strive this time to go to the Isle of Jewels without returning empty-handed. Second, there are three parts: the actual meaning of the words that dispel scriptural contradictions; the manner of explaining or not explaining the alaya-vijñana, which is different in essence from the mind consciousness; and the example shown as spoken with intention. First: If it is the case that even without the alaya, the relationship of cause and effect can be established, then in the Lankavatara Sutra, and in the Explication of Intentions, and in the Mahayana Abhidharma Sutra, it is said: the alaya-vijñana is the basis of the differences in the power of all things, the place of all seeds, like waves arising from the ocean, it is said to be the cause of the arising of all internal and external things. Then, is it that in all ways its nature is not established? It is not so, because it is said that the alaya exists, therefore it is taught to those to be tamed that it does indeed exist. This shows that because of need, the alaya is acknowledged in the presence of those to be tamed. When showing that one's own system has an intention, the intention on which it is based is: emptiness itself, represented by the emptiness of inherent existence. It should be understood that it is indicated by the name alaya-vijñana. The reason for saying it is the alaya is that inherent existence follows all things. Because of the need.

Not only does it show that there is the ālaya-vijñāna, but it also shows that there is the person (pudgala) as a substance. Because it shows its existence to the beings to be tamed, it is in order to accept them. As it is said, "Monks, the five aggregates are a burden. The bearer of the burden is the person." This is like that. This is in response to those who hold that the person is an independently existing substance, and instead of denying its existence, it is said that there is a person who bears the burden. Although it is not explicitly stated in the words, the meaning is that it exists as a substance. Furthermore, for some beings to be tamed, only the aggregates, without the person as a substance, are shown. That which is called mind, or intellect, or consciousness, if it is completely accustomed to faith and discipline for a long time, and goes upwards, then in the future it will go to higher realms. That is what is said. This also, for those who hold that the way to go to higher realms and liberation is true, wondering how much should be accepted, without blocking their clinging to truth, showing that it is merely aggregates, it implicitly shows that the aggregates are true. All of these are spoken according to intention. Here, if asked for whom it was spoken, the answer should be given: This teaching that the ālaya-vijñāna exists, and that the person himself exists as a substance, and that these aggregates alone, just these alone, are truly existent, is spoken with regard to those trainees who, as previously explained, are temporarily unable to realize or understand such a profound meaning. Those trainees who have long been accustomed to the views of non-Buddhists are unable to enter the profound nature of reality. As it is said in the Ratnāvalī, "'I' exists is not, 'not I' exists is not; children are frightened by this." As it is said, if the nature of reality is shown at the beginning, they are frightened, and thinking that the Buddha's teaching is like a precipice, they turn their backs on the teaching and do not enter, and therefore they will not accomplish great meaning. For those, instead of showing the deepest ultimate state at the very beginning, by showing the ālaya-vijñāna and the truth of the aggregates, etc., by relying on that, the tenets of the non-Buddhists can be refuted, thus leading them to great meaning, and in the future
