Therefore, regarding the meaning of the destruction of seeds, it is explained that seeds are continuously extinguished. Because it has been said that the non-destruction of seeds is prevented. Therefore, the continuous extinction of seeds refers to the extinction of lineage. Because the seed and the sprout are not one and the same, the seed itself has not transformed into a sprout. Also, because the non-destruction of the seed is prevented during the sprout stage, it cannot be said that the seed exists when the sprout exists, and therefore it is also constantly prevented. This is explained as follows, as stated in the *Extensive Play Sutra*: If there is a seed like a sprout, why is the seed not the sprout? It is neither different nor the same, such is the nature, neither continuous nor permanent is the nature of phenomena. This is the meaning of what is said. The meaning of these is that if a seed exists, then the sprout, which is caused by the seed, will also arise as it is. When it arises, the seed cannot arise directly, and if one thinks that the seed and the sprout are of the same nature, then, although the sprout does not arise from outside the seed, the seed itself has not transformed into a sprout. What is the reason for this? Because the sprout is a different entity that is established by its own nature from the seed, and it is also not of the same nature. When both of these aspects are prevented, the nature of the sprout is revealed as the nature of phenomena that is free from permanence and annihilation. This meaning is also stated in the same sutra: Actions are conditioned by ignorance, those actions are not the same as them, these two, actions and ignorance, are empty, by nature they are free from movement and without shaking. This is how it is explained. The first line states the reason why actions arise dependent on ignorance, the second line denies that actions are the same as themselves, the third line shows that both cause and effect are empty, and the fourth line shows the reason for emptiness, movement is the manifestation of actions, and being free from movement is that actions are empty of actions. This also shows the difference of what is to be refuted, which is to be free from being established by its own nature, and has the same meaning as 'not being that'. The meaning of this sutra is also stated in the *Fundamental Wisdom Treatise*: That which arises dependent on what, that is not that nature nor is it different, therefore it is said to be neither continuous nor permanent, therefore it is neither continuous nor permanent. Thus it is said. Fourth, divided into two, its own characteristics.
