Then, what can the cause do for that (question)? Because it is impossible to be anything other than these two. The second is divided into two: avoiding worldly harm by acknowledging other-birth through worldly reputation; and avoiding worldly harm because there is no other-birth even in worldly terms. The first is divided into two: the dispute of worldly harm, and showing the answer that it does not harm. The first is: If any reason is spoken for the sake of establishing other-birth, just as dry firewood is soaked with butter, you have completely burned it with the fire of wisdom, so the firewood of reason that ignites your fire of wisdom is enough, now there is no need to ignite it anymore. Then, if the reason is not shown, wouldn't the meaning of wanting other-birth not be established? That is not the case, because for things that are established from the world, other reasons have no effect, because the view of the world is very powerful. It is said: Because all worldly people abide in their own views and consider the view of the world to be reliable, it is very powerful. Worldly people also directly realize that an effect arises from a cause that is established in its own nature, and when establishing the basis of reason, it is established on the latter of the two, direct knowledge and non-direct knowledge. The first case is: since it has already been established by direct perception, there is no basis for establishing it. Therefore, for this situation where other-birth exists, what is the point of merely stating other reasons to prove its existence? Therefore, even without other bases for the proof of other-birth, things can arise from others, so for the situation where there is arising from others, what is the need to show other reasons? There is no need, because it has already been established by direct perception. The second is: For those who have not truly understood the meaning of the scriptures, and because from beginningless samsara, the habit of clinging to things as real has been cultivated, and there is a long-standing attachment to things that appear to be real, separated from the friend who is separated from it, that is, separated from repeatedly hearing the Dharma of separation - the reason for no self-nature, relying on the breakthrough of worldly harm, that is, relying on the guru's key points.
