Only those who observe each other will see "this is from that" and regard it as other. Sprouts do not exist simultaneously with seeds, because without the transformation of seeds, there will be no sprouts. Seeds do not possess otherness that is established in essence from sprouts, and without that (otherness), how can seeds become different from sprouts? They will not change. Because there is no otherness established in essence, the sprout arising from the seed is not established in essence, so please abandon the view that things arise from others. If the difference between the seed and the sprout is self-established, then things that are self-established will never change. In the period when the seed exists, it will also become materially different from the sprout, so that the two will exist simultaneously, but this is not the case. Therefore, this shows that there is no "other" established in essence between the two, but this is not a denial that the two, cause and effect, have essential differences in name. It is necessary to understand what is to be negated. The second point is that it is unreasonable to say that "sprouts do not exist simultaneously with seeds." For example, just as the two ends of a balance, one high and the other low, are not non-simultaneous, but are seen simultaneously. The sprout as the object to be produced and the seed as the producer, in sequence, the two actions of arising and ceasing occur simultaneously. Therefore, seeds and sprouts will also exist simultaneously. If you say that there is no fault because there is "otherness," then it is not permissible to understand the two events of the arising and ceasing of seeds and sprouts as occurring simultaneously by the example of the balance. If, in the example of the balance, the beginning and end are simultaneous, so the two actions of high and low are also simultaneous, then the actual situation that the metaphor is meant to illustrate is that seeds and sprouts cannot exist simultaneously, so it is unreasonable. To explain how it does not exist, it is explained in this way: If "being born" means that it is now clearly tending to be born, because the essence of the sprout is in the future, it does not exist now. And "being destroyed" means that although it exists, it is considered to be clearly tending to destruction, so it exists now. When the sprout tends to be born, the seed is now

When it is in the future, will these two, the seed and the sprout, be like the high and low ends of a scale? No, they will not. Because the two ends of the scale are in the present. Its two functions, high and low, also exist simultaneously. But the seed and the sprout do not have simultaneity. They think that the two functions are simultaneous, so the seed and the sprout are also simultaneous, and use the high and low of the scale as an example to prove that this view is not valid. If two functions can exist simultaneously, it does not mean that two things must also exist simultaneously. If it is thought that things like seeds and sprouts do not have simultaneity, but their functions can exist simultaneously, this is also not possible. Because those opponents have not admitted that action and thing are different. Moreover, now is the time to prevent the two actions from being established by their own nature. There are other errors, that is, in relation to the action of growth, the sprout as the agent is in the future when it tends to growth, so it does not exist at that time. If it does not exist, then the action of growth, which depends on the absence of the sprout as the basis, is also impossible to exist in reason, so it is not simultaneous with cessation. Two actions cannot exist simultaneously. If it is said in the Holy Rice Seedling Sutra: "Just like the high and low of the scale, in just one moment, the seed ceases and the sprout grows." Isn't the example of the scale used appropriately? Therefore, it should not be prevented to think that the seed and the sprout are like the high and low of the scale, if it is said like this. Although the citation is true, it is neither to explain other-birth nor to explain self-nature birth. It is said like this. If it is said that this birth, which is prevented by "birth", only prevents the birth established by its own nature. It is not at all to prevent the sprout from growing from the seed. So, if that sutra does not explain that the seed and the sprout are simultaneous like the high and low of the scale, then what kind of simultaneity does that example refer to? The explanation says that it is to clearly explain that arising dependently at the same time, established without observation, is like an illusion. The so-called arising dependently at the same time means that the two actions exist simultaneously.
