If so, then, its root is the Bodhicitta, as stable as the king of mountains, and the compassion that reaches all directions, and the wisdom that does not rely on the two extremes. This is the stated tenet. Although this quote points out the root of Bodhi, it does not directly point out the root of the Bodhisattva. However, the root is the meaning of the beginning, and it is in the context of explaining the three main factors of that time. Therefore, it can be known from the context that it is the main factor of the Bodhisattva. These three dharmas being considered as the factors of the Bodhisattva is related to the fact that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas become Buddhas, and that the Buddhas are born from Bodhisattvas. When examining from where the Bodhisattva is born, it cannot be used as the establishing factor of the Bodhisattva, but rather as the cause of arising. Therefore, whichever of these three is considered as the factor of the Bodhisattva, the bottom line is, is it considered as the initial Bodhisattva who has entered the path? If so, then it is unreasonable to consider the Mahayana's generation of Bodhicitta as its factor, because once it is obtained, it must be established as a Bodhisattva. It is also unreasonable to consider the wisdom that does not rely on the two extremes as the factor of the Bodhisattva, because the Bodhisattvas first generate the conventional Bodhicitta, and then on this basis, they learn the Bodhisattva's conduct, the six perfections. Therefore, it is precisely in the process of learning this Prajnaparamita that one learns the wisdom that does not rely on the two extremes. If it is not considered in this way, then it will contradict the description of the Bodhisattva as being like a new moon, and the description of the Bodhisattva as being like a sapling of a medicinal tree. If someone asks: Since this is the case, then the faults as mentioned above will arise, therefore the second view is not accepted, so the first view is accepted. However, the faults listed earlier do not exist, because the generation of Bodhicitta that precedes the Bodhisattva refers to the time of practicing the generation of Bodhicitta, not the mind that arises from relying on practice. This is like tasting the taste of the bark of a sugarcane and tasting the taste inside the bark. Merely thinking that one will attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings is just following the understanding of the words, like the taste of the bark of a sugarcane. Although this is called the generation of Bodhicitta, it is not the real generation of Bodhicitta. Just like practicing according to the instructions for training the Bodhicitta, relying on practice
