The term "feeling" is a word related to the agent, action, and karma, so it becomes three: this person feels, this action feels, and feels something similar. The second is valid cognition, which is mental feeling. The third is the object to be measured, which is happiness, suffering, and equanimity. This also applies to mental consciousness, not to sensory consciousness, where the three feelings of sensory consciousness completely cut off form, sound, etc. The way it is established is as previously explained. So, if the feeling of mental consciousness manifestly cuts off happiness, suffering, etc., will it not become self-awareness? There is no fault, because the self-awareness that is negated is when all consciousnesses look inward, the knowable and the knower appear as different, and the grasping aspect disappears into a scattered state. But here, the sutras say that a special experience is the definition of feeling. In worldly terms, it is also said that one experiences happiness and suffering. Because the experiencer and the experienced appear as different, it is not the same as the previous self-awareness. Therefore, feeling is established simply by experiencing happiness, etc. In the face of mental consciousness, if the form born from the source of phenomena, such as the clarity of a skeleton, appears, then, through the way the aspects of those arise in mental consciousness, it establishes those, then the establishment of the consciousness that grasps them is the same as before. Those objects are different in nature from mental consciousness. How is the consciousness of mental consciousness, such as the two graspings of self, established? The Commentary on the Root Text says: If there is a basis or its own characteristic, or even a general characteristic, if it exists in the world, then all should be directly perceived, because it is not hidden. Therefore, the consciousness related to its object is established together with direct perception. This should be understood through this statement. Among them, the basis and the signified have the same meaning, so some translators translate it as basis, and some translators translate it as signified. Therefore, what is said here is that the characteristic that is used to signify it, and the basis that is signified by this, all should be directly perceived, because this is said when determining the direct perception of the four valid cognitions. The Omniscient One directly perceives.

It is not to show images either, but in order to, after this, for the hidden object, in order to establish the sign, the knowledge arising from non-deception is subsequent inference. As it is said, all self-generals are manifest, and it is not to show the hidden either. Therefore, whichever knowledge is focused on self or general, the appearance of these two will arise. And the appearance itself is the object of that knowledge, the manifest, that is, both the object and the object-possessor's consciousness are established as manifest, which is to say that the term 'manifest' is truly applied to the object, and the object-possessor is established in a nominal way. If the aspect of anything appears in any knowledge, then all appearances are the object of that knowledge, the manifest. The appearance is manifest to that knowledge, and if it is a non-deceptive knowledge to that, then in the world, non-deceptive knowledge is called valid cognition, so it will become valid cognition. At that time, the measurable appearance is the establishment of that knowledge, and the establishment of the object-possessor is as before. Therefore, for example, in the case of the two self-graspers, the appearance of the two selves also appears as manifest. At that time, the manifest appearance of the measurable is the establishment of that object-possessor, etc., which is the same as before. Therefore, one should also understand the confusion about the object of clinging. Thus, the appearance of objects appearing as objects to the consciousnesses is the same in the establishment of the manifest. But there is a great difference in whether they become valid cognition or not in the two selves and the two selflessnesses, and in forms, etc., permanent and impermanent, etc. Therefore, the distinction between valid and invalid cognition in the mind can also be established. The valid cognition spoken of in the object of appearance of mind-consciousness is also to make the manifest of these objects the valid cognition of mind-consciousness, because it excludes the other extremes. Self-awareness manifest will not become valid cognition, because that object has the appearance of two. In the samadhi of uncontaminated wisdom, although the appearance of duality disappears, the nature of reality and the two become the knowable and the knower, and when all knowledge looks inward, although the appearance of duality returns, it becomes the knowable and the knower, the two are not the same in all aspects. Because the latter, apart from the object-possessor that is nominally established by tenets, no matter how much the mind is focused on by conceptual thought, the appearance of the knowable and the knower will not appear. But in the former, when focused on and observed, the different aspects of the object-possessor's knowledge and the object's nature will definitely appear.
