It does not abide in any place, nor does it abide outside of those. It rests in equanimity in the state of not finding it. Thus, if the five aggregates are analyzed one by one, they are not established anywhere, so the five aggregates are not self. I am also not the five aggregates, because I am not established outside of the five aggregates, and the five aggregates are not established by nature. Since I am not found anywhere, I rest in equanimity in that state, and I should know that I am not a dependent arising established by nature. Thus, until the definite knowledge that I am determined to be a dependent arising is born, I must repeatedly meditate on the objects of focus. Second, meditating on the selflessness of phenomena: aggregates, elements, and sense bases, as well as, the elements and what will become elements, virtue and non-virtue, appearance and emptiness, samsara and nirvana, all phenomena, are dependent arising, and nothing is established. As it is said, there are two here: one, meditating on the selflessness of impure samsaric phenomena, and two, meditating on the selflessness of pure nirvanic phenomena. The first has two: one, meditating on the lack of inherent existence of objects, and two, meditating on the lack of inherent existence of subjects. The first is meditating on the lack of inherent existence of all phenomena such as the five elements, the five evolutes, the aggregates, the elements, and the sense bases. First, meditating on the lack of inherent existence of earth among the five elements: focusing on any object made of earth, analyzing its shape, color, and tactile sensation one by one, it is not established as earth, and analyzing it from the perspective of direction and particles, it is also not established as earth, and it rests in equanimity in the state of earth lacking inherent existence. Similarly, water should also be understood. Fire arises depending on the rubbing stick, the rubbing base, and the effort of a person's hand. If each is analyzed, none of them arise. If each of the shapes, colors, and tactile sensations are analyzed, it is not fire, and it rests in equanimity as before. Focusing on wind, it does not arise from any direction, up or down. If each shape is analyzed, it is not established, as before. Space does not arise from any direction or boundary at first. Furthermore, those will not go anywhere. Since the essence is not established anywhere now, the five elements are not established by nature, and thus it rests in equanimity. Meditating on the lack of inherent existence of the five evolutes: focusing on a form like a vase.

From what point of view? Its shape, color, touch, mouth, throat, abdomen, feet, inside and outside, each of these does not constitute a vase, so keep it calm as before. Similarly, sound, smell, taste, touch, focus on each one, and examine each one in the form of direction, up and down, inside and outside, between the beginning and the end, shape, and color. Sound, smell, taste, and touch do not arise from any of those. Those are not established by their own nature, so keep them calm in that state. In this way, all conditioned dharmas represented by the five elements and the five changes, such as aggregates, realms, and sources, are naturally free from elaboration, and all unconditioned dharmas represented by the sky are naturally free from elaboration. In general, the two dharmas are free from elaboration. Similarly, all dharmas are without self-nature and free from elaboration, profound and peaceful. In the essence of anything, there is no self-nature established, but it arises dependently. Second, meditating on the selflessness of the subject: The eye faculty, form, and the previous grasping, etc., rely on the assembly to produce eye consciousness. Upon examination, the previous grasping is not eye consciousness. Neither the eye faculty and the object form, nor color, shape, touch, inside and outside, direction, up and down, or any direction in the center is eye consciousness. None of these exist in any one of them, and none of them have gone or come anywhere. The self-nature of eye consciousness does not exist, and it remains calm in the same state as when it was not found. Similarly, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness arise from their respective faculties, grasping objects, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and dharmas. However, upon examining each one, because there is no self-nature, it remains calm after understanding as above. In this way, all the dharmas of samsara, including objects and subjects, exist in the nature of dependent origination, without self-nature, and should be understood as illusions, dreams, mirages, and so on. Second, there are three points to meditate on the selflessness of the dharmas of nirvana.
