The arising thus-gone sees. The supreme Dharma, peaceful, is also well known. Having found joy, he satisfies sentient beings. Having conquered afflictions, he becomes victorious. He himself becomes victorious and has no dwelling. Therefore, he thoroughly knows the enlightenment of the victorious ones. From the Buddha, he knows beings. Thus it is said, and it is combined with the absence of other change, the non-finding of self-nature, the faults of not realizing it, and the benefits of realizing it. The second has two parts: the actual meaning and refuting contradictions with the scriptures. The first is: previously, it was said that things are without inherent existence, that they are not existent, because all things are considered to be emptiness. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that things that are the basis of emptiness exist by their own nature. If there were even a small part of emptiness that was established by its own nature, then its basis would also have to be a small part of non-emptiness that exists by its own nature. However, here, emptiness and selflessness are accepted as the general characteristics of all phenomena, so if there is not even a small part that is not empty of self, how could emptiness have its own nature? It cannot, because it is free from dependence on an opponent, like a flower in the sky. The two schools also accept the scripture that all phenomena are selfless. However, both teachers consider the self that is refuted by selflessness to be established by its own nature, so it is reasonable to say that the explanation in the Clear Words is as before. According to Buddhapalita, there is not even a small part that is not empty, so how could emptiness exist? It is said that the meaning of all phenomena being selfless is also the same, so the meaning is the same. If one wants even a small part of emptiness to be truly established, then one must undoubtedly accept that even a small part of its basis, the subject, is truly established. This is because without a basis, the dependent phenomenon cannot exist, and because it is contradictory for a truly established basis to be made by something false. Therefore, the Madhyamikas and the proponents of entities agree on this point. However, the proponents of entities consider both the subject and emptiness to be true, while the Madhyamikas consider the subject to be untrue, so emptiness is not established as true.

I see that in order for the consummated truth to be established as true, the dependent arising truth must be established as true as its basis. Therefore, I establish the dependent arising as true. If it is established as true, then its emptiness will effortlessly be established as true, and if it is not established as true, then for that very reason, its nature will become untrue. Therefore, speaking contrary to these is not the view of any of one's own higher or lower schools, and should be abandoned. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "When, of what, is there no observation? At that time, the unreal thing, separated from its support, how does it remain before the mind?" This also shows that the object to be negated is not the basis for negation, but that if the real thing is not established, then the emptiness of the unreal has no real basis. The second part has two aspects: explaining the meaning of the text and indicating the source of what was said. The first is: If the Bhagavan, in order to liberate beings to be tamed, taught the three doors of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, which are uncommon to non-Buddhists and only aimed at the words of the Sugata, then you are now using the trick of explaining scriptures to abandon emptiness. Doing so will cut off the path to higher realms and liberation. Arguing with you is enough for now. Alas, it is extremely inverted, abandoning the straight path to the city of liberation, and instead taking the path to the desolate wilderness of samsara, entangled by the delusion of clinging to true existence and non-existence, as the path to liberation. You, who should be blamed by the holy ones, are instead blaming the holy ones. Hey, great king of medicine, the Buddhas have said that emptiness is the view, that it is the definite escape from all clinging to truth, so all clinging to truth is simply wrong. Simply wrong, and not existing by its own nature. Therefore, those who view emptiness as existing by its own nature are impossible to convince, impossible to save. This is like saying to you that there is nothing to give you, and you say, "Please give me that thing called 'I have nothing,'" the other person would
