If it is considered that birth is the nature of compounded things, then consider whether birth is compounded or uncompounded. If birth is compounded, then that birth also has the nature of arising, abiding, and ceasing, and has three other things different from itself, that is, it has a combination. Because arising, abiding, and ceasing are unmistakable for all compounded things, and because it is necessary to represent compounded things through birth and other things. If you think so, then you should also ask here: How can birth be the nature of compounded things? Because birth is the object of representation that is represented by the nature that represents compounded things, so it is not the nature that represents compounded things like form and so on. If hardness is used to represent the earth element, if hardness is the earth element, then there will be no fault of needing another nature to represent the earth element. However, if birth is used to represent compounded things, if birth is compounded, then there will be a fault of needing another nature to represent it. The reason is that hardness, when representing its object of representation, the earth element, represents it in a way that is not different from its own essence. But birth, when representing its object of representation, compounded things, represents it in a way that is different from its own object of representation. If birth is uncompounded, then there will be no saying that how can birth be the nature of compounded things, just like space. The commentary also says that if one does not admit that birth has three other natures, then because it is separated from these three natures, it will become not the nature of compounded things. It will be said below that this is the view of the commentator, not the view of the root author, so it is just mentioned in passing. Buddha Protected, on the other hand, explains it in another way. What is said here about birth also includes the two cases of abiding and ceasing. If abiding is compounded, and so on, this is omitted here. The second point is that if one thinks that birth and so on are the nature of compounded things, then one should examine whether each one is the nature or whether the combination is the nature. The meaning is whether birth and so on represent separately and sequentially, or whether they represent simultaneously. For this question, birth and the three things included by "etc.", abiding and ceasing, each separately and sequentially It is not possible to act as the nature of representing compounded things. For example, at the time of birth

If abiding and destruction do not exist, then like space, there is no arising. If at the time of abiding, there is no arising and destruction, then like a flower in the sky, things do not abide. If from the time of self-establishment, it abides for a second time, then it will not be destroyed later. If it is destroyed later, then one thing becomes both permanent and impermanent, which is unreasonable. If at the time of destruction, there is no arising and abiding, then like a flower in the sky, there is no destruction. The Vaibhashikas believe that the आधार objects of characteristics such as form have four characteristics at the same time, but first there is the action of arising, then abiding, then aging, and then the action of destruction, proceeding in sequence. If this is the case, then it is harmful to those who speak of moments, as said by the earlier sutra masters. In response, our moment is when those four actions are complete, as stated in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, which is refuted here. That is to say, although there are characteristics such as arising, it is contradictory that their respective actions do not proceed. If actions do not proceed, then those characteristics also do not exist, so those faults will occur. If one speaks according to the second view, it is also unreasonable. It is impossible for arising, abiding, and destruction to be gathered together in one thing at one time, that is, for the collection to exist by its own characteristics. Such a gathering is contradictory, like attachment and detachment, light and darkness. In conventional terms, it is not contradictory for these three to be gathered together on one basis at one time, but if they exist by their own characteristics or in ultimate truth, then it is contradictory. Like this, if abiding exists by its own characteristics, then it must also abide in the second time from the time of self-establishment, so the destruction of destruction in the second time is unreasonable, so the destruction that is being destroyed in its own time also does not exist. Therefore, at the time when the action of abiding exists, the action of destruction is contradictory, like light and darkness. If arising exists by its own characteristics, then it must arise again, so it is contradictory to have the action of arising at the time of having the destruction that is being destroyed. If it is clearly directed towards arising, then it is the future, and if it is clearly directed towards destruction, then it is the present. This is taking arising, abiding, and destruction as the nature of action, arising is newly arising without previous existence, abiding is abiding similar to the previous kind, destruction is not staying in the second time, and before the moment
