That is the view of Dha Palita. Secondly, what is the use to us of examining whether a cause has an effect or not? Because consciousness and so on arise in dependence on causes such as the eye, therefore, these eyes and so on are established by their own nature as the nature of being a cause, if you say so. The word "Grag" indicates that the author does not agree. The Sutra School believes that the causes are effective when the fruit arises, but not before that. This is what is said in the Lamp of Wisdom. Since the act of arising has been prevented before, and it has just been shown that the cause is unreasonable, it is not appropriate to say these things, and even if they are said, there is a fault. Because from seeds and so on, until the fruit of sprouts and so on does not arise, that is, until the act of arising is not seen, how can these not be the cause of the fruit? They are not the cause at all. This is also because it is the key to establishing a cause only by combining it with the act of producing the fruit, so it must be admitted. If it is not a cause, then the fruit will not arise from it, just as oil cannot be extracted from sand. If you think that seeds and so on are not causes before the fruit arises, but become causes when they appear, it is unreasonable, because then everything will become the cause of everything. If you say that even if they are not causes, they will become causes by relying on some other causes, so there is no fault. Although seeds and so on were not causes before, they will become causes of sprouts and so on by relying on other causes, then that other cause, if it is not combined with the arising when its own fruit arises, it is not a cause. Therefore, it also depends on other causes, and it must be considered in the same way for that cause, so there will be no end. If that happens, the root cause cannot be established. If you think that combining with the act of producing the fruit is the way to establish a cause, then those before that are not causes, and if that is the case, then they will not become causes when they appear later, so they will become without a cause. One's own view is that it is established because it can do the act of producing the fruit, and there are two ways of doing it, directly and indirectly. Two

Furthermore, if one says, "This is the cause for this matter" because the connection of 'this arises from this' exists, then that connection must be examined to see if it holds true for either existence or non-existence. A cause is not reasonable for a non-existent thing. Moreover, a cause is not reasonable even for an existent thing. Therefore, it must be examined as a cause for either one of these two. So, this is to introduce the remainder. How is it unreasonable? Because no one would think that something that does not exist in the knowable is produced by a cause, so there is no effect at the time of the cause. Moreover, it is not thought that even the non-thing that merely cuts off the existence of the effect at the time of the cause will arise, so it prevents the belief that sprouts, etc., which do not exist at the time of the cause, will arise. If the effect does not exist before it arises, and one says, "What is this cause for?" Because there is no thing that can become a cause, what should be said? It is not appropriate to say that the cause of the non-existent cloth is thread. If one says that because cloth arises from thread, even if it does not exist now, it can be shown that thread is the cause of cloth in the form of future arising, then if it arises sometimes, that may be the case, but here, when preventing the arising established by its own nature, since the arising based on it never exists, even considering the cloth that will arise in the future, one cannot say that it is its cause. In the world, seeing that cloth arises from thread, and thinking of the later cloth, one says that the previous thread is the cause of cloth. This is to establish thread as the cause relative to cloth, and relying on it, also establish cloth as the effect. It is merely established by relying on mutual things, and its own nature does not exist. Therefore, if one establishes the previous thread as the cause relative to the cloth that will arise, then one must admit that it is a dependent imputation. For something established by its own nature, this is in no way reasonable. This is the reason that can prevent the opponent and is not contradictory to oneself. If one thinks that the effect exists before it arises, so it is the cause of existence, that is also unreasonable. If it exists, what does the cause need to do again? Just as the cloth is already completed and does not need to be accomplished by the cause of the thread.
