Thus it is said. And in this (scripture) it is said: "The agent relies on action, and action also relies on the agent itself. Apart from arising in dependence, no cause of accomplishment is seen." And it is said: "For this, the indication of Dharma is like this, that is, because this exists, that arises, and because this is born, that is born, for example, due to ignorance there are actions, due to actions there is consciousness, and so on, only these are said." Quoting these, the former scripture does not allow the acceptance of four kinds of birth, but allows birth in dependence, and the middle scripture, with the word "apart from," explains that mutual dependence and accomplishment is the method of accomplishment, not the method of accomplishment by nature. The last scripture is the method of understanding that existence is established because of dependence, and birth is established because of dependence. In the Madhyamakavatara, it is said that merely by distinguishing whether something arises from self or other, there should be no arising even in name, which is clearly explained in the commentary, that in name, the arising of self-character and reality is prevented. Thus, fruits such as sprouts arise in dependence on causes and conditions such as seeds, therefore there is no four-sided birth. In this way, it is easy to prevent causeless birth, and even if the nature is the same, it is contradictory to be produced by it, which has been explained before, and even if the nature is different, it is contradictory to arise from unrelated other things. Therefore, it does not arise from both. Therefore, it is only necessary to admit that sprouts arise in dependence on seeds, and this can prevent those four kinds of birth, which is the characteristic of the king of reasoning—the reasoning of dependent origination. If there is no four-sided birth, then from where does it arise? The path of dependent origination and the Middle Way should not be refuted by this. Even if it is only the meaning of the verse "not from self," it can be determined that there is no birth by nature, but it will not be deficient in the practice of emptiness, so those who want to understand the meaning of the unborn nature of their own mind and practice it should also study these a little. Second, there are two parts: refuting the argument that contradicts the scriptures, and eliminating the contradictions with the scriptures. First, those of our own school who assert the nature of things say that it is meaningless to arise from oneself, therefore there should be no self-birth, and without self-birth, it is unreasonable to arise from both.

Because it is completely and absolutely refuted, it is unreasonable to refute other-origination, because the Victorious One has stated that the four conditions, only transforming into a different entity, are the causes of the arising of all things. Thus, there are four types of conditions: the causal condition, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition. "Also and likewise" means that just as the cause is a condition, so are the objective condition and so on also conditions, thus connecting them. Some schools establish these four conditions as follows: the causal condition is as stated in the Abhidharmakośa: "Cause is called the five causes," that is, the five causes other than the efficient cause. The objective condition is: "The objective condition is all dharmas," that is, all dharmas that are the objects of the six consciousnesses. The immediately preceding condition is: "Mind and mental factors that have arisen, the last is not the immediately preceding condition," that is, the mind and mental factors that arose previously, other than entering nirvana without remainder. The dominant condition is: "The efficient cause is said to be the dominant condition," as it is said of the efficient cause. The six causes are as stated in the Abhidharmakośa: "Efficient cause, co-emergent, and similar, corresponding, pervasive, and ripening, cause is divided into six types." Some schools, however, believe that from the definition showing "the accomplisher is the cause," whatever exists as the cause of something, in the nature of a seed, that is its causal condition. Just as an old man gets up, the mind and mental factors that are arising, arise by relying on an object like a crutch, that is its objective condition. The immediately preceding condition is the condition in which the result arises immediately after the cause ceases, for example, the condition in which the sprout arises immediately after the seed ceases. The Commentary on the Entrance says: "The similarity of the sprout immediately after the seed ceases is like the immediately preceding condition." The Clear Words also, when refuting the immediately preceding condition, refutes that the similarity of the sprout is the immediately preceding condition, and Acharya Buddhapalita also holds the same view, therefore this is the school that admits that the similarity is the immediately preceding condition even for form. If something exists, then something arises, this is its dominant condition. The Clear Words says that what arises earlier, arises together, and arises later, etc., are also among these.
