Because this is a response to the refutation that "cannot be refuted," the refutation is the remainder of the first chapter's treatise. It explains that the word itself is emptiness, meaning dependent origination, and says that even without inherent existence, it can establish what is to be established and prevent what is to be prevented. Therefore, it shows that in the aspect of non-inherent existence, the actions of valid cognition and object of valid cognition, refutation and establishment, are also reasonable. And it shows that for those who claim inherent existence, valid cognition and object of valid cognition, etc., are unreasonable. Although the Root Wisdom has shown that all actions are reasonable in the absence of inherent existence, if it is specifically pointed out that the actions of refutation and establishment are reasonable, then in order to avoid thinking that this view does not allow self-establishment, etc., this idea must be refuted. The Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness is from the seventh chapter: "Like a dream, like an illusion, like a city of gandharvas, so is birth, so is abiding, so is destruction." This is a response to the above, so it is the remainder of that treatise. That is, when the inherent nature of birth, abiding, and destruction is negated, someone will object that it is unreasonable to say these things in the scriptures. The Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness says: "Abiding or birth and destruction, existence or non-existence, inferior or equal or different, the Buddha speaks by the power of worldly convention, not by the power of truth." It explains that all things such as birth and destruction are spoken by the Buddha by the power of worldly convention, not by the power of true establishment, and this is a response to it. In that treatise, it is said many times that the inherent nature is negated for birth, etc., and finally it says: "All things are empty by their own nature, therefore the dependent origination of all things, the Tathagata is incomparable, has thus revealed. The ultimate truth is exhausted therein. The Buddha, the Blessed One, relying on worldly conventions, has truly established all differences." Therefore, the ultimate truth of the state of affairs is that dependent origination is empty of inherent existence, and that is all. Therefore, it is said that all things such as birth are established by the power of convention. The Root Wisdom says: "The Buddhas teach the Dharma, relying on the two truths." This also shows that emptiness of inherent existence is the ultimate truth, and birth, etc., are conventional truths, but it is not said as before.

Here, it should not be understood merely that the meaning established by convention exists only by virtue of the name. Having shown the faults of not being empty of inherent existence through various reasonings, thereby establishing no inherent existence, all these various things are to clarify the meaning and manner of existing by virtue of name, and to show that all actions are reasonable. Since this is not understood, the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness was composed in order to understand it. In order to be liberated from samsara, a path that abandons the views of existence and non-existence is necessary, which is explained by two other treatises. In the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning, it says, "One is not liberated by existence, nor is one from this born by non-existence." It shows that there is no liberation by falling into the extremes of existence and non-existence. It also says, "By fully knowing existence and non-existence, the great being is truly liberated." It means that if one truly knows the suchness of existence and non-existence of things, then the noble ones are liberated from samsara. These two also exist without relying on each other, therefore, the non-inherent existence established by its own nature is their suchness. To this, someone argues that since the sutras say that there are things, samsara, and non-things, nirvana, then for these two, non-inherent existence is unreasonable. In order to answer this argument, saying that it exists in this way is a statement that is in accordance with the way of grasping that is held by the consciousness of children's conventions, and it is not spoken in accordance with the view of the suchness seen by the noble ones. The arising of samsara, with the wisdom that fully knows its non-inherent existence, manifests cessation at the time of the result, which is called obtaining nirvana. If it is not like that, but it is established by the exhaustion of afflictions established by its own characteristics and the non-arising of later aggregates, then the manifestation of cessation nirvana and the exhaustion of afflictions and aggregates are all unreasonable. Thus, it is refuted, and this is also explained as the meaning of the scriptures that teach the nirvana of the Lesser Vehicle. In order to accomplish it, the remaining treatises are spoken as branches. In short, at the time of obtaining the state of an Arhat, the meaning of obtaining and manifesting nirvana, if there is no manifestation of the ultimate truth of suchness, then it is absolutely impossible to obtain nirvana, which is the main meaning established by the Lesser Vehicle scriptures themselves. In the Precious Garland, it says that the proof of higher realms is trusting faith, and prior to that is the proof of definite goodness.
