That is to say, that is its own nature. If asked, what is the master of what, then, as a phenomenon, whatever dharma is uncreated, that is its own. Whatever is created is not its master, like the temperature of water. Whatever does not depend on others is also its master, like one's own servants and one's own property. Whatever depends on others is not its master, like a temporary image without autonomy. As it is said, it is not that all created things and those that depend on things other than that dharma are not the masters of that dharma, but to show that as the master who is established as the nature or essence of that dharma, it must not be its creation, and it must not be like a borrowed thing that depends on other things. Therefore, the inherent nature of fire is not created, not newly born without previous existence, and not confused with fire in the three times. Like the temperature of water, or this shore and the other shore, or length and shortness, it does not depend on other causes and conditions, that is said to be the nature of fire. If asked, does the nature of fire exist as such? The answer is, it is neither existent by its own nature nor non-existent. Although it exists, it does not exist by its own nature. As it is said in the Commentary on Entering the Middle Way: "Here, the ultimate truth is the special object of the wisdom of those who see reality, by which they obtain their own nature, but it is not established by their own entity." Although it is thus non-existent by its own nature, in order to dispel the fear of the listeners, it is falsely established and said to exist in the conventional sense. Here, because it is necessary to say that it exists, it is unreasonable to say that the ultimate truth is not knowable, as it is said in the Collection of True Dharmas: "In order to completely eliminate the places of fear in the world, birth and death occur by the power of language." As it is said, birth and death will also become unknowable. Because it is said to be falsely established, it is also unreasonable to say that the ultimate truth is not knowable. In order to know that it is said to exist by false establishment, there is a verse: In the dharma without letters, what is the listener and what is the speaker? False establishment has no letters, that is listening

is also a teacher. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra, the listener, the speaker, and the Dharma that is spoken are all fabricated, so they will also become non-knowable. Therefore, there are many statements such as "fabricated" even for those who teach by fabricating with discrimination, so it is not necessary to be like the fabrication of myself and the two graspers. If it is said that it exists from fabrication, then what is it like? The answer is that its own nature is the suchness of all dharmas, etc., which is the answer to the second question. That is the nature of all dharmas, and nature is self-nature, and self-nature is emptiness, and emptiness is no self-nature, and that is suchness, and that is also unchanging into the nature of suchness and always abiding. If these objects of focus exist as suchness by the power of the darkness of ignorance, then the noble equipoise of stainless wisdom should focus on them. However, in the manner of not seeing anything, the suchness of those becomes the object of that wisdom, because that wisdom realizes the suchness of things, and because things are not established as suchness, that itself is the suchness of those, and if there is an object to be refuted, it can be focused on, but by the very nature of not focusing, it is established that the object to be refuted has been refuted. The meaning of "not seeing is supreme seeing" is not to say that not seeing anything is seeing, but as said before, not seeing elaboration is established as seeing freedom from elaboration, so seeing and not seeing are not done on one basis. Thus, it is also said in the Compendium: "All forms are not seen, all feelings are not seen, perception is not seen and formations are not seen, consciousness and mind are not seen, this is seeing the Dharma, taught by the Tathagata. Beings say they see the sky, how can the sky be seen? Let them examine this with reason. Thus, seeing the Dharma is taught by the Tathagata, seeing the Dharma cannot be explained by other metaphors." Thus, not seeing is the five aggregates, and seeing is the Dharma, as it is said, and that is the meaning of suchness, as it is said: whoever sees dependent origination, sees the Dharma. For example,
