The acceptance of indivisible atoms is refuted by reason. If one wonders whether yogis who realize emptiness do not harm each other, then yogis who realize emptiness, due to differences in intelligence, those who dwell in higher and higher levels such as the second ground, can overpower those who dwell in lower levels such as the first ground. If considered from the perspective of the same continuum, due to the difference in the increase of intelligence, the seeds of abandonment of cultivation in the lower ground cannot be harmed, so it should be understood that the harm to the higher ground, etc., is actually abandoned. The necessity of composing these treatises is to ascertain that there are two types of minds: the mind that realizes conventional truth and the mind that realizes ultimate truth. If even the measure of realizing conventional truth does not harm the mind that realizes ultimate truth, then what need is there to mention the harm caused by those who cling to indivisible atoms? It is to be understood that the mind that realizes ultimate truth harms all clinging. The second part includes: the main point and the refutation of harm to it. The first is: For common philosophical systems, it is unreasonable for a yogi to realize that all phenomena are without inherent existence through reasoning, because there is no proof of the absence of inherent existence. If there is no inherent existence, then learning generosity and so on for the sake of the fruit of Buddhahood would be meaningless. It is not that there is no proof of the absence of inherent existence, because for both the Madhyamikas and the Realists, examples such as dreams and illusions are known and accepted as false, and based on them, the absence of inherent existence is established. If there is no inherent existence, then learning generosity and so on would not be meaningless, because for the sake of attaining the fruit of Buddhahood and so on, although generosity and so on are not truly established, they are not examined or analyzed, but are understood as false illusions, and are entered into with wisdom. If it is not grasped by the wisdom that realizes the absence of inherent existence, then the remaining perfections will not obtain the name of perfection, and one must enter the city of omniscience with its object. If you also accept that fire and so on, which can perform functions such as cooking, are established by direct perception, then we call this truly established, so there is no need for us to argue. If you do not accept this, then direct

If it is said that there will be many harms such as contradicting this, these are the arguments of holding onto the two truths, thinking that if things do not exist by their own nature, they will not exist at all, and if they exist, they must exist by their own nature. Although the Madhyamaka school and the worldly people who claim that things exist both see and acknowledge things like fire with valid cognition (pramāṇa), those who claim that things exist think and acknowledge that things are truly established, but they do not understand it as emptiness and illusion. Because the Madhyamikas understand this, here too, there is a dispute between the Yogic Madhyamikas and the worldly people who claim that things exist. Or, the former worldly people are only applied to those who claim that things exist. Secondly, generally refuting the Sautrāntikas and other proponents of realism, specifically refuting the tenets of the Mind-Only school, and refuting the fallacy that the path of realizing emptiness is not necessary or effective for the Madhyamaka. Firstly, refuting the harm of direct perception and refuting the harm of scripture. The first is: if it is not established by its own nature, then is it contradictory to the five objects such as form being seen by direct perception? Answer: It is not contradictory, because the establishment of form and so on by direct valid cognition is only valid on the conventional truth established by fame, but the suchness (tattva) of form and so on is not established by that valid cognition, nor is it valid on that suchness. If that were the case, then ordinary people would also see the suchness, so there would be no need to generate the noble path, and the Samadhiraja Sutra says: "Eyes, ears, and nose are also not valid cognitions." Etc., it should also be understood that it is prohibited to be a valid cognition on the suchness. If form and so on are not established by their own characteristics, then how do they appear? Even if they appear, how are they false? Answer: Just as the impure things such as a woman's body appear as pure and so on, things are false. Secondly, explaining the scriptures that show impermanence and so on of compounded things as provisional meaning, refuting that it is the ultimate meaning, and eliminating the contradictions to it. The first is: if form and so on are not established by their own nature, then is it contradictory to what is said in the sutras as impermanent and so on? Answer: It is not contradictory, because the Protector (护法) taught that things are impermanent in order to gradually lead worldly people into suchness. The second is, in suchness, things
