Wherever there is clinging, that itself should be taken as the basis of emptiness, thereby establishing emptiness. It is not a delusion to think that in the pariniṣpanna (consummate nature), there are two other natures, svabhāva and viśeṣa, and that they are different things. Therefore, how can one establish selflessness by saying that the pariniṣpanna, the two other natures of svabhāva and viśeṣa, are different things, and therefore are empty? Even when clinging to the existence of dharma-ātman (self of phenomena), it is not like some people clinging to the existence of fire, thinking that there is a different thing. When one's own mind appears separately and distantly as an external object and an internal object-possessor, because one clings to the way it appears as the way it is established, its antidote is to show that the appearing object and object-possessor are not established as other entities of grāhaka (apprehender) and grāhya (apprehended), but rather to show that grāhaka and grāhya are not different things in that. Therefore, in the commentary on the Madhyāntavibhāga (Discrimination of the Middle and the Extremes), it is said that it is not like a monastery being empty of monks, but like a rope being empty of a snake. The way in which dharma-ātman is empty is also like that. Therefore, do not do as the world says, that a ghost harms in the east gate, so a ransom is sent to the west gate. Rather, contemplate the pariniṣpanna, which is empty of the imagined self of parikalpita (completely imputed), according to how the otherness of the basis on which one clings to self is clung to. If one meditates on such emptiness, it will become the antidote to self-clinging. If one meditates on emptiness in a way that is different from that, it will not harm self-clinging at all. Nöjom's explanation is that, for conceptualization, the appearance of the general sound of the expresser and the general meaning of the expressed is the eye of parikalpita; for the āyatana (source) of the apprehended form, the appearance as the eye of the self that clings to it is the eye of paratantra (dependent nature); the generalities of sound and meaning, being free from what is to be said and what is said, are therefore unspeakable, and being free from appearing separately in the grāhaka and grāhya of the eye, the pariniṣpanna that is cognized by self-awareness separately in samādhi (meditative equipoise) is considered to be the eye of dharmatā (suchness). Therefore, the dharmatā of the eye is the meaning cognized by the noble ones in samādhi, free from the dualistic appearance of appearing as expresser and expressed and grāhaka and grāhya, and the object of the samādhi of the two other natures of svabhāva and viśeṣa is called emptiness, because the former dualistic appearance is parikalpita and the latter is paratantra. As it is said in that very text, the object called the eye, which is the way of appearing of what is to be said and what is said, is the object of parikalpita.

It is the eye. That itself abiding in the nature of grasper and grasped, appearing distinctly in the form of an eye, is the nominally imputed eye. That itself, free from the form of what is to be said and what says, unspeakable, free from becoming with appearance and one, each with its own self-aware perfected essence, is called the eye of dharmata. Thus, when you meditate on the ultimate, the object of the characteristics of conditioned phenomena does not appear, so know that it does not exist in the ultimate but exists in the conventional. Thus, it is said that the meaning of the noble equipoise is without dualistic appearance. Therefore, that is not the way to establish the basis of the view, the perfection of the selflessness of phenomena. In "Destroying Harm," although it is said that the meaning of the noble equipoise is merely existent, it is said to be ultimately existent, but all those who wish to realize thatness through equipoise only desire that the meaning of their own object be existent as an object. Therefore, where is the ultimately existent one in the debate about whether it is ultimately existent or not? Those who do not at all desire the ultimately existent one that can be endured by the reasoning that distinguishes suchness, because in the case of emptiness of emptiness and ultimate emptiness and unconditioned emptiness, many refutations that specifically distinguish this kind of desire have been stated, and because of the fear of being too numerous, I have not written them. In the Sutra of the Mother, from form to omniscience, each is established with three aspects, and it is said that the basis of emptiness, the imputed, the object to be negated, the completely conceptualized, is empty, the nature of reality is perfectly established, so the nominally imputed eye, empty of the completely conceptualized eye, must be declared as the nature of reality. With the meaning of equipoise, the first two empty the latter, and it does not seem good to explain the meaning of the sutra in this way. From this, just as the eight discriminations of the great Hearer are thrown in a related way, they are also found in the Explanation of Twenty Thousand. Both other-powered and perfectly established are rejected by the reasoning that distinguishes suchness and can be endured, so. Vasubandhu explains the meaning of the Sutra of the Mother with the Explanation of Intent, but it is very inconsistent with what is said in the Explanation of Intelligence and the way of explanation, so it is not a work of Vasubandhu. In the old letters of the past, there is Dṛṣṭa.
