It is said, "Birth by its own nature or essence is not by itself," so it is born by itself. That is born independently. In the Compendium, it says, "All conditioned things are interdependent, therefore they are born by the power of conditions, and what is not born by itself is called the very absence of inherent existence of birth." As it is said. Because other-dependence does not have such an inherent birth, it is said to be without inherent existence, but it is not said to be without inherent existence because it is not established by its own characteristics. There are two ways to establish the third absence of inherent existence, among which the establishment of ultimate absence of inherent existence on other-dependence is as stated in the Explanation of Intention: "What is the ultimate absence of inherent existence of all dharmas? It is interdependence. Those dharmas that are without inherent existence by the very absence of inherent existence of birth are also without inherent existence by the very absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality. Why is that? Ultimate reality is truly noble. Whatever is a pure object of observation for all dharmas is fully shown to be ultimate reality. Since the nature of other-dependence is not a pure object of observation, it is therefore called the very absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality." As it is said. Because other-dependence is not the nature of ultimate reality, it is called the absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality. Ultimate reality is that which, when focused on and accustomed to, will cause obscurations to be exhausted, but focusing on and becoming accustomed to other-dependence cannot purify obscurations. So why isn't the completely imputed also established as the absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality? It would be true to establish it merely because it is not a pure object of observation, but in relation to refuting wrong conceptions, because other-dependence is not a pure object of observation, it is established as the absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality, while the completely imputed is not established. How so? If it is known that meditating on the emptiness of other-dependence by the completely imputed will purify obscurations, then in that case it is also necessary to focus on the entity other-dependence, which would also become a pure object of observation, so the doubt would arise that it would become ultimate reality, but the completely imputed does not have such a doubt. There is no fault in that doubt, because it is certain that sound is impermanent, although the grasping of sound as permanent is prevented, because it focuses on sound,

It is like being steadfast and irreversible. Regarding the ultimate truth that takes the pure other-powered nature as its object, even if it is not established as the ultimate truth, whether or not it is established as another ultimate truth will be explained later. Regarding the second way of establishing the ultimate truth as absence of inherent existence, it is also stated in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra: 'Furthermore, whatever is the characteristic of the perfectly established nature of all dharmas is also called the ultimate truth, the absence of inherent existence.' Why is that? The ultimate truth is excellent! The absence of a self of dharma in all dharmas is called their absence of inherent existence, which is the ultimate truth. The ultimate truth is distinguished by the absence of inherent existence of all dharmas, therefore it is called the ultimate truth, the absence of inherent existence.' This is what the sutra says. The perfectly established nature of the absence of a self of dharma in all dharmas is a pure object, so it is also the ultimate truth. Since it is distinguished by the absence of inherent existence of the self of all dharmas, and is established in just that way, it is also called the absence of inherent existence of all dharmas, therefore it is called the ultimate truth, the absence of inherent existence. Furthermore, the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra states: 'If the characteristic of the imputed and the characteristic of the ultimate truth were different, then the mere absence of a self and the mere absence of inherent existence of the imputed dharmas would not become the characteristic of the ultimate truth.' This is what the sutra says. In the case of examples, just as emptiness is established as merely being without form, so too is the absence of a self established. Therefore, it is very clear that for the subject, compounded phenomena, the perfectly established nature of the absence of a self of dharma is established upon the mere negation of the proliferation of the self of dharma. Although one wishes to show the meaning of suchness in this sutra as the meaning of understanding, it is contradictory to not establish the unchanging, perfectly established nature as merely a negation of what is to be refuted, but to think that the negation of what is to be refuted, which appears before the mind, is independent of the negation of what is to be refuted, and to establish it as an autonomous establishment. This perfectly established nature is merely the negation of the self of all dharmas, so it is said to be the ultimate truth, the absence of inherent existence of all dharmas, but it is not the case that the absence of inherent existence is not accepted as a tenet because it is not established by its own nature in the nature of negation. Third, what are these three absences of inherent existence like? The Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra states: 'For example, a flower in the sky'
