So, what is the meaning of the saying, "Unborn, unceasing, originally peaceful, naturally in nirvana"? Just as there is no self-nature, so there is no birth. Just as there is no birth, so there is no cessation. Just as there is no birth and no cessation, so it is originally peaceful. Thus, self-nature is completely in nirvana. So, what is the meaning of explaining non-birth, etc., from the perspective of the three characteristics? On this, in the Chinese commentary, it says: The sutra does not say that the intention of "other-dependent is unborn," etc., in order to show that it is not without the meaning of dependent origination. And what is said in the Compendium of Abhidharma is in terms of self-birth and causeless birth. Because the other-dependent has its own characteristics, there is birth and cessation, so saying that there is no birth and cessation does not refer to the other-dependent, and the other-dependent is mostly included in the defilements, and it is not made the basis of the latter two words, which is the intention of this sutra. In the case of the three self-natures, it is said in terms of the cause of their lack of self-nature, just as there is no self-nature, so there is no birth and no cessation, originally peaceful, and originally in nirvana, considering this, it is said in this way in the Compendium of Abhidharma. The third question is: If the characteristic of the completely imputed is without self-nature, then what is the completely imputed itself? On this, the Explanation of the Thought Sutra says: The object of discrimination, the place of the characteristic of the completely imputed, for the characteristic of the conditioned, with name and concept, it is established as the self-nature or the difference of the self-nature of the form aggregate, and the form aggregate is born or ceases, or the form aggregate is abandoned and completely known, thus, with name and concept, it is established as the self-nature or the difference of the self-nature, this is the characteristic of the completely imputed. It is said in this way. Among them, the first three words show the basis of the establishment of the completely imputed, and from then on, it shows the way of the completely imputed. The so-called "This is the form aggregate" is established as the essence, and "The form aggregate is born," etc., is the way of establishing it as a difference or characteristic, which will be explained in detail. If the other-dependent is without self-nature, then what is the other-dependent? On this, the Explanation of the Thought

It is said in the [Madhyamaka] commentary: "The object of discrimination, the locus of the characteristic of the completely imputed nature, the sign of action, is the nature of dependence." First, it is the object of what; second, it is the basis of imputation of the completely imputed; and third, it shows its own essence. If the perfectly established ultimate is without self-nature, then what is it itself? That is, in the Explanation of the Thought Sutra, it is said: "The object of discrimination, the locus of the characteristic of the completely imputed nature, the sign of action, is not perfectly established in that completely imputed nature, and only by that very nature, there is no self-nature, the absence of self in phenomena. What is the object of such purity is the nature of perfect establishment." By "phenomena," etc., it is said that the selflessness of phenomena is suchness. By focusing on what and meditating, obscurations are purified.
