If so, even without firewood, fire can be clearly seen, just as a cow can be clearly seen without a horse. The Catuhsataka also says, "Fire burns heat itself. How can it burn what is not heat? Therefore, there is no such thing as firewood. Without it, there is no fire." Just as it is said. Like this, if one admits that burning has a self-nature established by its own entity, then just as not burning oneself, one will not burn others either. If one admits that the eye has the self-nature of seeing, one must also think that if it does not see itself, it will not see others either, thus the previous fault cannot be avoided. Like this, when seeing the harms caused by admitting self-nature, one will abandon the tenet that holds that there is a self-nature established by its own entity. After that, one can also understand that actions are reasonable when there is no self-nature. Therefore, non-self-nature and non-existence can be distinguished separately. Therefore, self-nature and existence can also be distinguished separately. Therefore, for objects to be measured that are without self-nature, measuring with measures that are without self-nature, and so on, can also be understood. So, by this, the measure that realizes that fire and firewood are without self-nature is not direct perception, so it must be considered inference. If so, what is its basis, the reason? If one thinks that there is self-nature, it cannot go beyond being one or different, and when the self-nature of one and different is excluded, one sees that it is pervaded by non-self-nature. Thus, two aspects are established. Determining that there is no self-nature of one and different is the nature of the subject, so there is a sign of the third aspect. Relying on that, determining that fire and firewood have no self-nature is inference. Through this, one should also understand the three aspects and how inference arises in the formulation of the other's assertion that was previously arranged. If fire and firewood have self-nature, then the self-nature will become either one or different. Like this, if it is one, then the fire will burn itself. Like this, taking what others admit as the reason, and then projecting the undesired result onto the other party, these are all of this kind, and through these, other faults can also be understood. If so, as long as the external opponent does not abandon the tenet of the substantialists, then as long as he relies on the establishment of the object to be measured that is established by its own entity, it can be established as the measure that accomplishes the meaning.

In that time, some things are not established by their own nature, but are recognized through valid cognition, thereby abandoning the tenet that asserts the existence of things. In the Commentary, it is also said: If inference is harmed by inference through any established means of inference, is it? Answer: It is harmed. But this is only because of the reason that is established for oneself, not because it is established for others, because it is seen in the world. In the world, sometimes the two parties in a debate (referring to the proponent and the opponent) determine victory or defeat through words established by valid cognition that both parties recognize, and sometimes it is determined only by one's own words, not by the words of others. As it is in the world, so it is in reasoning, because worldly terms are precisely applicable to treatises on reason. Therefore, the scriptures speak of examples and knowledge that can be used as reasons and are known to others. The logicians believe that the three aspects, etc., established by valid cognition for the opponent must also be established for the proponent. Therefore, in order to refute the view that both the proponent and the opponent must be established, the scriptures say: If a statement that is certain for both parties is said to be established or refuted, then it is incorrect to say that a statement is established or uncertain for either party. Therefore, one should also acknowledge this way of reasoning based on worldly conventions. In this way, the harm of scripture is not only through scripture that is established for both parties, but through what? It is also through the way that is established for oneself. For inferences for one's own benefit, it is entirely dependent on what is established for oneself, not on what is established for both parties. Therefore, it is not necessary to state the definition of logic, because the Buddhas, through the reason of how it appears to themselves, help those who are to be tamed who do not understand this reason. Thus it is said. In this way, just as it was said before, establishing what is to be established through reasons that are established for both parties in the debate is called the Svātantrika reason; if it cannot be established, then establishing what is to be established through reasons with three aspects that are known to the opponent is called the Prāsaṅgika, which is precisely the intention of the teacher.
