Therefore, abandoning the Mahayana will create great karmic obscurations. Therefore, abandoning the Mahayana is due to little hearing, holding one's own view as superior, not attending to and respecting virtuous people, not understanding the essence of the Tathagata's teachings, destroying oneself and destroying others. Words tainted with poison that contradict reason and scripture should be abandoned far away like poisonous food by those who are wise and cherish themselves. After establishing the view of Hwa-shang in this way, if one thinks like this, then the reasons for abandoning all the Mahayana have been clearly shown, and one should recognize this previous view. If you think that we perform actions such as giving, and are different from them, if it becomes necessary to distinguish them only through actions such as giving, then it shows that we and Hwa-shang are the same in the view and practice of ultimate meaning. If it is not like that, then one should also distinguish the differences in the samadhi that does not conceptualize anything. Furthermore, if any conceptualization binds samsara, then are you not seeking liberation from samsara? If you seek liberation, then performing actions such as giving and guarding precepts must also be done through conceptualization, so what is the need to do these? It has been said a lot before. Therefore, if one thinks that any conceptualization binds samsara, then Hwa-shang's view is correct. If according to your view, you will be crushed by the burden of contradiction. Some who follow them also think like this: after making a lot of observations on the objects of self and dualistic grasping (grasper and grasped), and then eliminating the grasping of the subject, it is like a dog chasing a stone, which is an external cessation of elaboration. From the beginning, not letting the mind scatter anywhere, like grasping the hand that throws the stone, doing that itself will not scatter to the objects of dualistic grasping, which is cutting off all elaboration from within. Therefore, studying the scriptures and reasoning that determine the view is just indulging in the words of conventional language. This is the extreme of wrong conceptualization that abandons the Buddha's teachings and the treatises of wise men such as the Six Ornaments, because they use reason and scripture to

It is for the sake of establishing this alone. Furthermore, regarding the mind that grasps at the designation of "I" and "mine," one should thoroughly examine how it grasps, and then, through completely pure scriptural authority and reasoning, one must destroy the root of the false delusion by generating certainty that it does not exist as it is grasped. If one does not find such certainty, merely holding the mind, even if at that time the mind does not wander towards the object of "I" and "mine," one does not realize the meaning of selflessness by that alone. If that were not the case, then even during deep sleep and fainting, the mind does not wander towards those objects, so they would also realize selflessness, which would be too extreme. This is like, for example, when one is afraid in an unfamiliar cave at night, wondering whether there is a demon or not, instead of lifting a lamp to thoroughly investigate whether there is a demon there and dispelling the fear, one says, "Don't let the thought of the demon wander, hold onto the mind." In the Final Stages of Meditation, it is said that in battle, one should not be like a warrior who opens his eyes and looks carefully at where the enemy is, and then throws weapons at them, but rather like a coward who closes his eyes and stays still when he sees a powerful enemy. As it is said, in the Sutra of the Play of Manjushri, it is also taught: 'Daughter, how does a Bodhisattva gain victory in battle?' The answer is: 'Manjushri, if one thoroughly examines and sees that all phenomena are unobservable, that is victory.' Therefore, the yogi should open the eye of wisdom and defeat the enemies of affliction with the weapon of wisdom, and abide in fearlessness, and should not close his eyes like a coward. Thus it is said. Therefore, just as when one mistakes a rope for a snake and becomes frightened, one must generate the certainty that the coiled thing is a rope and not a snake, and thus reverse the suffering of delusion and fear, so too, regarding the delusion that arises from grasping at the existence of "I" and "mine," and the suffering of samsara that arises from that delusion, one must generate the certainty of scriptural authority and reasoning that determines that the object of self-grasping does not exist, and thus understand that self-grasping is a delusion, and then reverse it by becoming accustomed to its meaning. When it is reversed, all the suffering of samsara that arises from it is also reversed.
