Accomplish. Then, in the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses, it says: "Whatever takes the consciousness of the senses as manifest and understands others as valid, that is also extremely irrelevant. If non-deceptive knowledge is seen as valid in the world, then consciousness is also said by the Blessed One to be conditioned, therefore false, deceptive, and illusory in nature. Whatever is false, deceptive, and illusory in nature is not non-deceptive, because it appears in a different way to an object that exists in a different way. As such, it should not be considered valid, because all consciousness would then become valid." How should we understand the general negation that the consciousnesses of the eye, etc., are valid? This is very different from "The eye, ear, nose are also not valid," etc., and the point of doubt is very great, so it should be explained in detail. Thus, the negation that eye consciousness, etc., is manifest and valid is a negation of the logician's view. First, we must state their view. In the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses, it says: "This logician, because he has not fully understood worldly matters, must be studied from the very beginning like a young child. In order to show this, we must refute and examine, 'What is your manifest?'" He said: "Knowledge is manifest." What kind of knowledge? "That which is free from conceptuality." What is conceptuality? "The confused consciousness that engages in superimposing names and categories on objects. Because it is free from these, the five sense consciousnesses only engage with the inexpressible self-characteristic of the object, and therefore should be expressed by the term 'manifest'." As it is said, knowledge that is free from conceptuality and non-erroneous is considered to be manifest. Among these, non-erroneous means grasping according to the way the self-characteristic of the object exists. Therefore, the five sense consciousnesses measure the self-characteristic, so the self-characteristics of form, sound, etc., are the objects to be measured by these five manifest consciousnesses. Therefore, the basis for their becoming valid is also the self-characteristic of these five objects. This teacher

As previously explained, it is not accepted even in conventional terms that something is established by its own nature or by its own characteristic, so how could these sense consciousnesses be accepted as valid cognition on their own characteristics? Therefore, the negation of them being valid cognition here is the negation of them being considered valid cognition on the own characteristics of the five objects. The way to negate is: The Blessed One said that the consciousnesses are false and deceptive, and this negates it. That is to say, because it is said to be deceptive, it negates non-deception, thereby negating being valid cognition, because non-deception is the characteristic of valid cognition. So, what is the way of deception? If you think, it is "appearing in a different way to things that exist in a different way," for the sense consciousnesses, the five objects such as form and sound, appear as their own characteristics even though they are not established by their own characteristics, therefore, they are not valid cognition on their own characteristics. In short, these sense consciousnesses are not valid cognition on the own characteristics of the five objects, because they deceive depending on the appearance of the own characteristics of the five objects, that is, because the five objects appear as their own characteristics while being empty of their own nature. For example, it is thought to be like the consciousness that appears as two moons. For this, the proponents of reality think that if form, sound, etc. do not have the nature of being established by their own characteristics, then they are considered to be non-existent things that are empty of all functional abilities. If the own characteristics of the five objects do not become direct valid cognition, then there is no place for the five objects to become valid cognition. Even if the five objects become valid cognition, it is considered to become valid cognition on its own characteristics. This teacher thinks that if it is established by its own characteristic or nature, it will become true, therefore, for the valid cognition that establishes the truth of the object, it is necessary to become valid cognition on its own characteristic. However, the object is false, therefore, for the valid cognition that establishes it, it is not necessary to become valid cognition on its own characteristic. As it is said in the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses: "It is also unreasonable to exclude seeing reality with worldly views, because for the world, it is valid cognition itself, and the object it focuses on is also to prove the nature of false deception." Therefore, because the validity of being valid cognition on its own characteristic is negated, it is not necessary to negate only valid cognition, therefore, for the conventional consciousnesses, it is not a general negation of valid cognition. If it is not like this, then the non-deceptive
