It is unreasonable to say that "cognition is seen as valid in the world," because all conventional cognitions are determined to be valid. Moreover, it is said in the Clear Words: "Therefore, the world understands things through these four valid cognitions." This contradicts the establishment of the systems of direct perception, inference, scripture, and analogy as valid cognitions. It is denied that valid cognition and the object of valid cognition are established by their own nature, but it is not denied that valid cognition and the object of valid cognition are dependently related by being established in dependence. As it says in the same text: "These are also established by mutual dependence; if there is valid cognition, then it becomes the object of valid cognition; if there is the object of valid cognition, then it becomes valid cognition. Valid cognition and the object of valid cognition are not established by their own nature." Therefore, if there is no harm of being corrupted by internal and external causes of delusion such as cataracts, then, due to being corrupted by ignorance, the delusion of sense consciousnesses and so on appearing to grasp objects that are empty of inherent existence but appear to have inherent existence does not harm the conventional non-perverted view. It is also said in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: "False vision is also considered twofold, namely clear senses and damaged senses. The consciousnesses of those with damaged senses are said to be contrary to the consciousnesses of those with perfect senses. Whatever is grasped by the six senses without harm is said by the world to be true; the rest is said by the world to be inverted." That is to say, for conventional cognition and objects, depending on conventional cognition itself, they are established as two types: correct and incorrect. Regarding the causes of harm existing within the senses, it is said in the Commentary on Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: "Among them, cataracts and yellow eyes, and eating Datura flowers and so on, are the conditions of harm existing within the senses." Just as it is said. Regarding the causes of harm existing outside, it says in the same text: "Sesame oil, water, mirrors, and caves, etc., as well as the sounds that are spoken, and the sun's rays approaching in specific places and times, etc., are the conditions of harm to the senses existing outside, because without those harms to the senses existing inside, they become the cause of grasping reflections, echoes of rocks, and mirages as water, etc."

Likewise, one should also understand the mantras and medicines, etc., that are well-prepared by illusionists and the like. What harms the mind are those, as well as tenets that are considered untrue, and seemingly correct reasonings. That is to say, wrong tenets and seemingly correct arguments are said to be the cause of weakening the mind. Dreams and the like, which weaken the mind, are also caused by sleep and the like. Therefore, although the object of ignorance's clinging, as will be explained below, does not exist even in name, the harm of being deluded by ignorance is not considered a cause of harm here. If these five sense consciousnesses, without the interference of other causes of delusion, are not deluded in name, then the self-characteristics that appear to them must exist in name. But this is not what this teacher approves of. Therefore, it must be admitted that they are deluded, and if that is the case, these consciousnesses are not reasonable as valid cognition for establishing forms, sounds, etc., in name, because they are deluded about forms, etc., in name. If you say so, it should be answered: For this, the teacher Legden 'byed says that in name, forms, etc., have a nature that is established by their own characteristics, because the Mind-Only school denies that the completely imputed has a nature established by its own characteristics, therefore it is self-natureless. On the completely imputed, through the examination of both the expresser and the expressed, if it is thought that in name, the sound and mind that establish as self and difference do not have the nature of self-characteristics, then it becomes a slander of the dependently arisen things. Because of this prohibition, it is clear that in name, the dependently arisen has a nature established by its own characteristics. Likewise, in the twenty-fifth chapter of the Lamp of Wisdom: "Here, if it is said that in the thing called form, the nature of the completely imputed that is spoken of in the mind and spoken of in words does not exist, then it is a slander of things, because it is a slander of what is spoken of in the mind and spoken of in words." And in the commentary on that, Chenrezig Zhutul said: "This refers to the Yogacharas saying that the nature of the completely imputed is self-natureless by being self-natureless. If it is said that forms, etc.
