The result is the arising of great happiness, and even from a small non-virtuous action, a great suffering arises, so the internal cause and effect are different from the external cause and effect. As it says in the 'Collection': "Even by doing a small sin, the next world will be a great fear, and will cause great destruction, like poison entering the stomach. Even by doing a small merit, the next world will bring great happiness, and will also accomplish great things, like the abundance of grain ripening." The arising of a great result from a small action is to generate certainty by recounting past events. As it says in the Vinaya Basis: The story of the frog trampled by the cowherd Gawa and his staff, and the five hundred swans, fish, turtles, five hundred hungry ghosts, the farmer and five hundred oxen, and the stories of the golden deity, golden staff, and elephant keeper arising from the Wise and Foolish Sutra. It should be determined from the Vinaya, the Wise and Foolish Sutra, and the Hundred Deeds Sutra. Furthermore, regarding the four: discipline, ritual, livelihood, and view, if the latter is not damaged and the former three are not completely pure and perfect, but some parts are damaged, it is said that they will be born as nagas. As it says in the Ocean-Asked Sutra: "Bhagavan, when I was in the great ocean at the beginning of the kalpa, and when the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha appeared in the world, then the nagas, naga sons, and naga daughters in the great ocean were few, and I also had few attendants. Bhagavan, now there are so many nagas, naga sons, and naga daughters in the great ocean that they cannot be counted. Bhagavan, what is the cause and condition for this?" The Bhagavan said: "Lord of the Nagas, those who have gone forth in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, but have not completely perfected pure discipline, their rituals are damaged, their livelihood is damaged, and their discipline is not completely perfected, but their view is upright, they will not be born in the hells of sentient beings, but after death they will be born in the abodes of nagas." So it is said. This is also the teacher Krakucchanda Buddha's...

Regarding the teachings, there are ninety-eight crore of householders and renunciates, fourteen crore for the teachings of the Golden Sage Buddha, eighty crore for the teachings of the Dipamkara Buddha, and ninety-nine crore for the teachings of our teacher. Due to the decline of rituals, livelihood, and discipline, they will be born as nagas or will be born as nagas. Even after our own teacher passes into nirvana, the four assemblies who engage in evil deeds will also be born as nagas due to the decline of discipline. However, even if their actions are impure, due to the fact that their faith in the teachings has not diminished, they will be reborn as gods and humans after dying as nagas. Those who attain enlightenment in this Fortunate Aeon, except for those who have entered the Mahayana, are said to attain nirvana. Therefore, one should firmly believe that even the subtle actions of good and evil follow like a shadow, thereby generating great happiness and suffering. Therefore, one should strive to accomplish even small virtuous deeds, and also strive to avoid subtle sins and downfalls. As it is said in the Compendium: When birds fly in the sky, their shadows follow along. Good and non-good deeds also follow beings. Just as those with insufficient provisions for the road suffer on the journey, similarly, beings who have not performed virtuous deeds will fall into the lower realms. Just as accumulating many provisions for the road leads to a comfortable journey, similarly, beings who have performed virtuous deeds will be reborn in the higher realms. It is also said: Do not despise even the smallest sin, thinking it is harmless. Even small drops of water, when accumulated, can fill a large vessel. It is also said: Do not despise small sins, thinking that there will be no retribution in the next life. Small drops of water can fill a large vessel. Similarly, accumulating small sins will fill a fool with evil. Do not despise small virtues, thinking that there will be no retribution in the next life. Small drops of water can fill a large vase. Similarly, accumulating small virtues will fill the steadfast with merit. Also, as it is said in the Jataka tales: If virtuous and non-virtuous actions are practiced and become familiar, they will become a habit for people. Such people, even if they do not deliberately strive, will naturally be like a dream in future lives.
