Even if (others) cause remembrance, it is okay. Unwholesome memories such as attachment arise while the coarse consciousness is operating. At the time of death, when one experiences intense suffering in the body and dies while doing unwholesome deeds, one experiences here the premonitions of the results of previously done unwholesome deeds. Like a dream, many unpleasant appearances will appear to him, like going from light to darkness. Those who commit great unwholesome deeds will experience suffering in their bodies upon seeing those unpleasant signs, and they will bristle, flail their limbs, excrete feces and urine, grab at the air, roll their eyes, foam at the mouth, and so on. If one commits intermediate unwholesome deeds, some of these will occur, and some will not, and it will not occur completely. For those who commit evil deeds, the retribution is extremely severe. Retribution exists in all places of rebirth except for the realms of gods and hells. At the time of death, all beings will develop attachment to the "self" that they have long been accustomed to, before reaching the state of unclear consciousness. After that, due to attachment to the "self," thinking that the "self" is about to disappear, they become delighted with the body, which is the cause for the formation of the intermediate state. For stream-enterers and once-returners, attachment to the "self" also arises, but they will examine it with wisdom and abandon it, not accepting it, like a strong person striking a weak person. Non-returners do not have that attachment to the "self." Dying with an unspecified mind, whether doing good or unwholesome deeds, or even not doing them, one does not remember either of these, nor do others cause one to remember them. At the time of death, one is neither endowed with happiness nor suffering. Dying with a virtuous mind is only so while having coarse consciousness; when subtle consciousness is operating, the virtuous mind recedes and becomes an unspecified mind. At that time, one cannot recall the virtuous deeds previously practiced, nor can others cause one to recall them. It is the same with unwholesome deeds, so when subtle consciousness is operating, all death-thoughts are unspecified. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, it says: virtuous and unvirtuous.

Therefore, the nature of mind is clear, which is different from what is said about the dying mind. Third, from where is heat collected? Those who do evil, their consciousness abandons the body from the upper part, first the upper part becomes cold, and it is abandoned until it reaches the heart. Those who do good, abandon from the lower part and become cold, and both transfer consciousness from the heart. Initially, the consciousness enters the center of semen and blood, and that becomes the heart of the body, and finally from whichever direction it transfers, it initially enters that direction. Thus, the body's heat initially gathers from the upper part to the heart, or from the lower part to the heart, and then gathers from the lower part or the upper part to there, although it is not said, it should be known. Fourth, the way the bardo is accomplished after death is: as previously explained, from the direction where consciousness transfers, without interruption, like the high and low of a scale, death and bardo are accomplished simultaneously. The reasons are: attachment to the body arises, and complete immersion in the joy of previous experiences, and the karma of good or evil, relying on these two. That bardo body also possesses all the senses such as eyes, and has the form of the body of the place where it will be born. Until rebirth is obtained, the eyes are unobstructed like a divine eye, and the body is also unobstructed like having miraculous powers. The Treasury of Knowledge also says: "The previous existence has form and color, this is the realm before death, until the moment of arising. The same kind of divine eye can see, held by the power of karmic transformation, all senses are complete and unobstructed, irreversible is called Gandharva." It means that the bardo body can be seen by the same kind and by the undefiled divine eye arising from meditation. Once the bardo body that will be born is accomplished, it cannot be changed to another rebirth, but the Compendium of Categories also says that it can be changed. The previous existence refers to the four existences: from death to non-rebirth is the intermediate existence, the first moment of rebirth is the birth existence, from the second moment to before the last moment of the death existence is the previous existence, and the last moment of death is the death existence, as said in the Treasury of Knowledge. Now, the previous existence in relation to the death existence at the time of rebirth
