Although that is not a truly self-originated cause, it is consistent with the cause of the accumulation of existence that generates future rebirths, and therefore it is included in the accumulation. Similarly, it is said in the Collection of Determinations: 'If someone asks, why are those worldly dharmas that eliminate the craving for rebirth and do not incline towards it, thereby generating the supramundane path, included in the truth of accumulation?' The answer is: 'Although they do not inherently incline towards the existence of rebirth, they are consistent with the well-practiced body, speech, and mind of rebirth, and therefore it should be known that they are included in the truth of accumulation.' Thus it is said. After well contemplating the faults of samsara, the virtuous actions motivated by the thought of renunciation from it, which generate the supramundane path, are said to be in accordance with the accumulation. Therefore, one must strive to generate this thought and the wisdom of selflessness. In this way, if one contemplates the faults of samsara in various ways and meditates on them, but fails to find the antidote to eliminate the craving for the perfections of samsara, and also fails to properly examine the meaning of selflessness with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, then, apart from some virtuous actions that rely on the power of the field, virtuous practices that are separate from familiarizing oneself with the two bodhicittas will become self-originated causes, thereby turning the wheel of samsara. There are also two types of accumulating karma: accumulating for the sake of experiencing pleasant feelings, and accumulating for the sake of experiencing neutral feelings. The first is further divided into two: the pleasant feeling arising from enjoying desirable qualities such as forms and sounds, and accumulating karma for the sake of the pleasant feeling of experience arising from samadhi after turning away from external pleasures. Among these, the first is further divided into two: if one primarily aims for the happiness of this life up to the point of death, then one accumulates non-meritorious karma; if one primarily aims for the happiness of desire in future lives, then one accumulates meritorious karma. If one primarily aims for the pleasant feeling of experience arising from samadhi, then one accumulates unwavering karma that arises from the third dhyana down to the first dhyana; even if one has turned away from desire and is weary of pleasant feelings,

Regarding equanimity, the karma of formation is the accumulation of immovable karma arising from the fourth dhyana to the peak of existence, which is the view of Master Vasubandhu. By that reasoning, if one turns away from attachment to all existence and strives for virtue in the three doors of body, speech, and mind for the sake of liberation, then one will become more distant from samsara and closer to liberation. Third, there are five aspects to death, transmigration, and the manner of rebirth: the causes of death, the mind of death, from where warmth is gathered, how the bardo is formed after death, and then how to take birth in the realm of existence. The first is: dying from the exhaustion of life, which is dying after all the life thrown by previous karma is exhausted, that is, dying when the time comes. Dying from the exhaustion of merit, such as dying without provisions. Dying without abandoning unsuitable things, which refers to the nine causes of dying before the end of life, as stated in the Ninefold Path Sutra: eating without moderation, eating unsuitable things, eating before the previous food is digested, not eliminating undigested accumulated food, suppressing ripened things, not relying on medicine separately, not knowing what is habitual and unaccustomed, going at the wrong time, and impure conduct. Second, there are three types of death consciousness: dying with a virtuous mind, whether one remembers it oneself or has others remind one, it is fine; one should always practice faith and other virtuous dharmas in the mind until coarse consciousness arises. The death of a person who does good and evil, whether one remembers it oneself or has others remind one, is also fine; whichever one has practiced many times before will become the most powerful, so the mind will focus on that, and the others will be forgotten. If one is equally accustomed to both, then the one that is remembered first will not change, and the mind will not turn to others. A person who does good is like going from darkness to light, and at the time of death, he will dream of various pleasant images, not unpleasant ones, and will die peacefully, and his body will not experience intense suffering at the time of death. For those who perform good deeds, the crucial breaking point is very small. Dying with an unwholesome mind, whether one remembers it oneself or others
