Therefore, even the realists, when they apply rational analysis to negate conventional things such as external objects, the reason only fails to find them, but does not negate them. Some say that the reason for not negating the meaning of terms such as form is that it is not negated in the view of worldly self-satisfied people such as cowherds. But it is very unreasonable to say that they are negated by the reason of analysis. Because for those who have the ability to think, there is doubt as to whether they can be negated by the reason of analysis, but for those whose minds have not been changed by sectarianism, there is no doubt that they are not negated. Moreover, if they are negated by the reason of analysis, then that negation must be nominal. The teacher Chandrakirti also clearly stated that the reason of analysis does not negate all births. As the commentary on the Four Hundred says: "If this analysis is to negate all births, thereby showing that there is no conditioned birth, then it will not be like an illusion, but will be measured like the son of a barren woman, etc. Fearing the fault of falling into no dependent arising, it will not be consistent with them, but will be consistent with illusions, etc. that do not contradict it." This is clearly stated here. "This analysis" refers to the reason for analyzing Suchness. "Negating all births" means negating all births without distinction, that is, negating all births. The meaning of "barren woman," etc. is that if all births are negated, then they will become useless non-existent things like the son of a barren woman and the horns of a rabbit. In this way, there will be the fault of losing dependent arising. Fearing the son of a barren woman, etc. who have lost all ability to function, they are different from things that are not born, but are the same as illusions, etc., so what is negated is the birth of truth or self-nature. Again, as the commentary on the Four Hundred says: "If eyes, etc. do not exist, then why are these faculties such as eyes said to be the nature of the ripening of karma? Have we negated the nature of these ripenings? If eyes, etc. are negated, then

If someone asks: How does reasoning not prevent (conventional reality)? Because our discriminating mind is dedicated to seeking inherent existence. Here, we refute that things are established by their own nature, but we do not refute that eyes and so on are made by karma and are the ripening of dependent arising. Therefore, because of its existence, whatever is called ripening, eyes and so on do exist. Reasoning only refutes this much and does not refute this much, which has been very clearly explained. If this distinction is explained only in one instance, then it must be applied to all instances where it is not explained as well. Therefore, seeking from one's own side, existing on the object with its own nature, reasoning refutes this, but it does not refute mere existence, because reasoning is said to be dedicated to seeking inherent existence. Reasoning seeks whether inherent existence exists or not, so what it refutes is also the refutation of inherent existence, so these two must be distinguished. Not only are such karmic results not refuted, but the Madhyamikas must also accept them. This can be seen from the following passage of that quote: Therefore, the wise should not allow discriminating minds that conform to what worldly people say to contradict the view of realizing emptiness, but should acknowledge that the ripening of karmas is inconceivable, and should accept all worldly phenomena as if one illusion arises from another illusion. Thus. If the establishment of the two truths made by oneself, with the reasoning that establishes the ultimate truth, harms the establishment of the conventional truth, then the system of establishing the two truths has an internal contradiction. How can one be an excellent scholar in establishing the two truths? If there is no contradiction between these two establishments, then it is contradictory to refute the establishment of the conventional truth with the reasoning that establishes the ultimate truth. The Commentary on the Clear Words also says: You are not proficient in the ultimate truth and the conventional truth, so you impose some seemingly reasonable arguments and destroy them in an irrational way. I am proficient in establishing the conventional truth, so I abide in the position of worldly people, and the reasons put forward to eliminate a certain aspect of the conventional truth are different from other reasons.
