is workability. Similarly, when delighting in abandoning afflictions, the adverse condition of the mind that obstructs the abandonment of afflictions and becomes a part of afflictions, when striving to abandon afflictions, being free from not allowing joy to be directed towards virtuous objects, and the mind engaging in objects without obstruction, is mental workability. Thus, the teacher Lodrö Ten says: The physical workability is that from which arises the lightness that enables the body to engage in its own activities. Mental workability is the cause of the calmness and lightness of the mind that engages in correct attention, which is another dharma arising from the mind. When accompanied by this, one engages in objects without obstruction, therefore it is called mental workability. It is said. In short, if one attains pliancy, even if one desires to strive to abandon afflictions, like engaging in one's own work, the inflexible body and mind that are difficult to engage in due to attachment are reversed, and the body and mind become extremely easy to use and possess. Such a complete physical and mental workability also arises from the initial attainment of samadhi, with each small part arising, and as it gradually increases, it eventually transforms into a highly pliant and one-pointed calm abiding. This is initially subtle and difficult to perceive, but later it becomes easier to perceive. As it says in the Hearer's Stage: Even at its very beginning, when engaging in the practice of correct yoga, the arising of extreme mental pliancy, extreme physical pliancy, and physical and mental workability is subtle and difficult to examine. And: When that one-pointedness of mind and that extreme pliancy of mind and body increase, it is like this: in the manner of transmitting from one cause to another, it leads to a coarse and easily examined one-pointedness of mind and extreme pliancy of mind and body. It is said. The preliminary sign of the arising of pliancy that is complete with characteristics and easy to examine is that the person who is diligent in meditating on samadhi experiences a feeling of heaviness and stiffness in the head, but it is not an unpleasant heaviness. As soon as this arises, one becomes free from the adverse mental state that obstructs the delight in abandoning afflictions, and it becomes the antidote to that.

First, extreme pliancy of mind arises. As stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi: When the coarse and easily observable one-pointedness of mind, as well as extreme pliancy of mind and body, arise as a precursor to their imminent arising, a feeling of heaviness in the head will arise. However, that is not the nature of harm. As soon as it arises, it will abandon the unfavorable mental states that are on the side of the afflictions, which hinder the joy of abandonment, and its antidote, mental fitness and extreme pliancy of mind, will also arise. Thus it is said. Then, relying on the power of the arising of extreme pliancy of mental fitness, the wind that becomes the cause of the arising of extreme pliancy of body will flow in the body. When that wind pervades all parts of the body, it will be separated from the unfavorable states of the body, and the antidote to the unfavorable states of the body, extreme pliancy of body, will arise. It will also appear as if the entire body is filled and pervaded by the power of the wind of fitness. As stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi: When it arises, the great elemental winds that are in accordance with the arising of extreme pliancy of body will flow in the body. When those flow, one will be separated from the unfavorable states of the body that are on the side of the afflictions, which hinder the joy of abandonment, and its antidote, extreme pliancy of body, will appear as if the entire body is growing and filled. Thus it is said. Among these, extreme pliancy of body is a very pleasant tactile sensation within the body, but it is not a mental factor. The teacher Loden said: The distinction of tactile sensation of the body, if seized by joy, should be known as extreme pliancy of body; if the mind is joyful, then the body becomes extremely pliant. For it appears thus in the sutras. Thus, when extreme pliancy of body first arises, relying on the power of the wind, a great experience of bliss arises in the body, and relying on that, an extremely excellent experience of joy and bliss will also arise in the mind. After that, the power of the first arising of extreme pliancy gradually diminishes. That is not because extreme pliancy is exhausted and disappears, but because the coarse one makes the mind too agitated.
