It is called the Wrathful One, with round red eyes, and hair, eyebrows, and beard blazing red-yellow, etc., fully possessing the unpleasant signs is the Unpleasant Wrathful One. Conversely, the Wrathful One with long, slender eyes, etc., is called the Charming Wrathful One. Regarding the nine-pointed vajra as a hand implement, generally there are three vajras: the five-pointed yellow vajra is the Tathagata-hero vajra. The five-pointed red vajra is the Vajrasattva's vajra. The nine-pointed black vajra with horns extended separately is called the Wrathful One's vajra. The rest is easy to understand. Hayagriva does not have a horse's head. This was said by Shantipa. The manner of being adorned with eight snakes should also be understood in other instances where it appears as being adorned with eight snakes or great nagas. This was explained by the great teacher Paladhara in the commentary on Black Enemy, and it comes from the teaching lineage Vajra Garland. Having thus arranged the deities, in order to completely destroy all obstacles, as it says in the text, 'Subdue the obstructing maras, and peg them down with the phurba.' This should be done. The manner of subduing is as explained by Thubpa Pal, one transforms oneself into an angry vajra and looks at the obstructing maras below. They understand one's intention, and a second emanation of the obstructing maras comes and sits in front, asking, 'What should I do?' At this time, the mantra for subduing is OM SUMBHANI SUMBHA HUM, etc. In the case of all such mantras, Palden Dawa explains them with four meanings: name, meaning, recitation, and application. Among these, the names are snake, headless, tailless, and collected. The first is that which has OM at the beginning and SVAHA at the end, having both. The second is that which does not have OM at the beginning but has SVAHA at the end. The third is that which has OM at the beginning but does not have SVAHA at the end. That which has neither is the fourth. The meaning is that the meaning of OM is as previously explained. SUMBHA means to certainly subdue. NISUMBHA means to completely certainly subdue. This is calling them by praising the greatness of the obstructing maras. GRIHNA GRIHNA means seize, seize. GRIHNA PAYA, etc., means seize and drink water, it is a mantra.

English

According to this meaning, the retinue of Harming Beauty appears joyfully. Ānaya means "bring it." Ho bhagavan means "Hail, Bhagavan." Vidyā-rāja means "King of Knowledge." The condensed meaning should be understood through implication. When manifesting, it is said that the one and only gradually becomes ten directions, or transforms into ten, and then goes to the ten directions. Although it is not clearly stated which situation it is, the latter should be taken as the standard. After subduing the obstacles, what should be done? To this, some say that it serves as the seat for the wrathful deities. Although sometimes the wrathful deities are used as the seats for the directional guardians, here it should be done according to what the master Samaya Vajra said, entering as if into the hole of a well, which is also consistent with inserting the vajra kīla. Then, by looking at the northern auspicious grass mat, it understands your intention, just as it appears from the methods of accomplishment such as emanation. The meaning of the mantra is that if "ta" is inserted in the middle of "gha gha," it means "to kill." "Ghātaya" etc. means "chop, chop." Who to chop? It is said "sarva duṣṭān," meaning "all the wicked." "Kīlaya" etc. means "obtained by the kīla." What to obtain? It is said "sarva pāpaṃ," meaning "all those with sinful minds." "Phaṭ phaṭ" makes it clearer, just like the previous one. The three "hūṃs" are to urge body, speech, and mind. "Vajra kīlaya" is to summon the vajra kīla. "Vajra dhara" is Vajradhara. "Ājñāpaya" is to command. "Pati" is the lord. "Sarva vighnāṃ kāya vāk citta vajra kīlaya" means that the body, speech, and mind of all obstacles are obtained by the vajra kīla. Here, some say that Harming Beauty holds the vajra hammer in her hand because it is not in her own hand gesture, so it was borrowed from Yama. But this is unreasonable, because it is not in Yama's hand gesture either. Then, what is the vajra hammer that is on the deity's symbol? Although it appears on the deity's symbol, it is not necessarily in the hand gesture, just as eyes appear on the deity's symbol of the eye-mother (goddess), but it is not in the hand gesture. Therefore, the vajra hook becomes the vajra hammer. Vajra kīla!
