One also deviates from the true meaning and does not cause others to comprehend. If one points out something with the tip of a finger, and that person only follows and looks at the tip of the finger itself, in the same way, a child also clings to the literal meaning and does not seek the true meaning. Therefore, one should not rely on it for the sake of meaning, and one should abandon attachment to the literal meaning and seek the meaning. Quoting this as a basis, if one only clings to the literal meaning shown by the sound of A-thung (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་) encompassing all words, one will not find the other meaning it represents. Just as looking only at the tip of the finger does not see what it points to, therefore one must seek another meaning from its literal meaning. So, what is that meaning? To this, the lamas of Tibet say: All speech sounds arise from vowels and consonants, and all vowels and consonants arise from A-thung (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་), and A-thung (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་) arises from the empty, luminous space of the body. Therefore, all speech sounds are equal to space and have the root of emptiness. Therefore, all the objects expressed by speech sounds, such as the aggregates, should also be known to be like space, without inherent existence, and this is explained as the suchness of speech sounds. My own view is that, quoting the authority of the Vajra Mandala Ornament Tantra, the indestructible bindu that burns like a lamp in the center of the heart is said to be the meaning of A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A). And in the Name Praise, it is said that A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) is the most excellent of all letters, and in other tantras it is said that A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) is the door to all dharmas, and these must be explained as the same meaning here. That is, the indestructible bindu into which the winds dissolve at the end of death, as stated in the Compendium of Practices, is that. Having explained the definition of A-thung (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་) in this way, since it is said to be the cause of all vowels and consonants, the definition of vowels and consonants should also be: the winds that arise dependent on the indestructible subtle wind, when they reach the various places inside the body, appear in the form of vowel and consonant tones, and these are what are called vowels and consonants, not the vowels and consonants that arise from the effort of the tongue and palate. The Sambhuta Tantra says: In the center of the eight-petaled navel chakra, the most excellent letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) abides, and all the mantras of sentient beings arise from it. The A-thung (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་) spoken of here is the tummo dust of

It is the nada of stillness. Here, in the Vajramala, it says, "From where do the hundred and eight winds that are spoken of arise and spread?" In response to the question, it says, "The characteristic of the place of wind is: / The wind that pervades the six chakras, / Always resides in the Dharma wheel, / Called 'life' pervades beings, / At midnight, without conceptualization, / Rising from the supreme sky, / It distinguishes the nature of wind." In general, the place of wind is all six chakras, and in particular, the life-wind that arises from the emptiness of the heart, it separates all winds, that is, it rises after shaking, and it is said that this wind pervades all the winds of all beings. When it first forms, the life-wind forms from the heart, and when it is finally gathered, it is also gathered there. Therefore, what was previously said about all mantras arising from the indestructible A, refers to the life-wind residing in the heart and the indestructible A of bodhicitta. In the Manne, it is said that eight letter groups reside in the navel chakra, existing in an unclear manner, and at the time of recitation, those with the place of origin of wind in the lotus womb arise unclearly, and it is said that they arise clearly from the functions of the throat and so on. The A in the heart is the supreme basis for the appearance of clear light, therefore it is the most supreme of all letters, therefore it is a word of great meaning and sacredness. What arises from the heart is unborn, and in destruction and change it says, "Great life is not a letter." What appears is that life is the life-wind, and great is the meaning of supreme. "Without a letter" means that the indestructible does not have the form of a letter. Abandoning words means not having the nature of speech. The cause of speech is, in general, all winds, but the indestructible is the main cause. Making all words completely clear is also, when the wind that comes from there reaches the throat, words with clear sounds arise. The door of all dharmas is the door of all meditations, because the clear light of bliss and emptiness is the essence of all samadhis. If the indestructible A can gather wind with samadhi, then the clear light of emptiness, which is naturally unborn and determined by great bliss, appears, therefore it is said that it has not arisen from the beginning, nature.
